This photo depicts two of my children pretending to read the Bible together, like they're Rod and Tod Flanders or something. The magic of the season! 😇

And in any case, if you tell me how the govt is reacting without giving me a clear picture of what they're reacting to, you're privileging the govt's response even if you quote some anonymous sources saying it's BS.

Given the choice between news coverage that treats an extremely unreliable executive and dysfunctional federal govt as if they were operating normally, and coverage that downplays those sources in favor of accurate information, I think the latter is clearly better, but it's not what we're getting.

I know in my parish there are many Catholics who take the Republican line and think they're in good standing. I'm not asking anyone to try to change their politics. I just think they deserve to know they're not in line with the faith they profess.

This, for example, is the most straightforward reported story on the subject in the NYT today, and I don't see a graf that just recounts the event (when, where, etc). You have to pick out the details scattered among the lies from Trump, and even so, I'm still wondering what exactly happened!

The lie they keep trying to put across is that you can't reward merit while promoting diversity. They'll destroy every decent institution rather than admit that white, straight men don't have or deserve a monopoly on merit and power.

The most revealing moment in Trump's infamous Jamboree speech was when he was reading from his prepared remarks and started reciting the Scout Law, and was surprised when the huge audience joined in. He didn't know the first thing about Scouting and its values—and he's a living repudiation of them.
