Momentum is everything in 'This Is No Cave'! We built a velocity formula that ramps up until you slow down or land. Then we added a specific visual and sound effect that scales with the same formula so you can feel the momentum.

After our 4th user tests round, we realized that people were getting frustrated by the hitbox of our character, which was too big when they hit an obstacle and too small when they hit a bumper. So we made two hitboxes.

One small but meaningul addition to void miner was adding knockback to the asteroids when we hit them. That along with camera shake, sound effects and particles really give a dopamine hit every time you do damage. #asteroids #retro #incremental #simulation #indiegame #indiedev #retrogame #roguelite

Here's the world record of the 23rd level of our #videogame This is no cave, in hardcore mode. It took me more than 20 tries to take the video. It was pretty easy because the only competition I have right now is the artist of the studio.

Lately we've been working on the final boss of our #indiegame This is no cave. We want the player to feel pressured but not wronged by unfair gameplay. We set up the space worm to adapt its speed and only punish obvious failure.

Thanks! I had to tweak a lot of the forces, I used unity hinge joints and tried to guess where the player intended to go based on mouse pointer and current velocity to nudge them in the correct direction and make sure they do not lose momentum.
