I have known women who wouldn’t vote for a woman. When you ask why, they give a variation on women being emotional or them not being leaders or not Gods plan.
Similarly, I have known bigots married to POC who say they can’t be racist.
It’s all complicated. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but there we are.

Having said that, I currently live in the North in a suburb next door to a crazy Qanon nutcase who has flown a black no quarter flag.We had a hard time finding a contractor who didn’t make subtle comments about Black or Jewish people while trying to make a sale.It’s not better here, just different.

The giant Conf flag around Godwin, NC on 95 is shocking every time I see.
I grew up with “heritage not hate” defenders who would sincerely tell you they were not racist because they had Black friends they treated as equals but any suggestion of systemic racism would be met with hard pushback.
