Honestly, I don't see a way in which Red States make their way out of the poverty desert. You have to give conservative, Red State politicians some credit on commitment to vision: they understood that if the key to compliance was a destroyed public education system. Sad.

Yes, you basically just have to read Naomi Klein's book Disaster Capitalism and you've got the global conservative playbook.

In terms of Sales Tax, our provincial Sales Tax is 8% and our Federal Sales Tax is 5%, for a combined Sales Tax rate in Ontario of 13%. We actually ran Federal Surpluses for four consecutive years in the late 90s and early 2000s until a Conservative Government cut the Federal Tax by 2%.

For illustrative purposes, here are our National Income Tax rates. Income tax is also paid to the Provinces as well. I fall within the 26% Federal rate, but my total Income Tax responsibility combine is 40%.

It is funded by the Federal Government. We have a nation wide sales tax of 5%. Then we pay personal income tax rates that vary by income tax bracket. In short, at the Federal level it is funded nationally through general tax revenues. Some provinces also have their own healthcare premium.

Possibly. Blue States would be much more likely. Red States... I'd be skeptical.

UH will never happen in the States for two reasons: first, political corruption due to Citizens United, and second the huge aversion to taxes. UH in Canada isn't "free." It's funded through a higher taxes. Taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society.

As a fellow Canadian, I would disagree that it costs $0 per month. It's just baked into our provincial and federal taxes. That said, the generalized cost of our healthcare makes it exceedingly cheaper for us as citizens!

Only an American would refer to the Indigenous people of North America in that way. Everywhere else in the world refers to them either as the Indigenous People's or First Nations. Your framing suggests America existed a priori of them. Just saying...
