Further, basically an order of 'kill them all' is inherently an illegal US military order.

The US DoD handbook on the rules of engagement and law of war specifically covers shipwreck, downed plane survivors, etc. in times of both recognized interstate war and other conflicts. This is the material used to train.

This article has a decent write-up with references.

This was a few years ago, and there was an extra compartment next to the 1 that was just supposed to be opened at the same time. It was weird! Looks like at least this side of the pond the nonjam special item this year is a piece of decor for Christmas Eve.

The clothes he appears to have on underneath would hardly be appropriate for the aesthetic. I think that may be part of it.

It's abundantly clear that at least the time they were ordered to strike again at survivors in the water was criminal, no matter what he attempts to weasel with. It's basically the textbook example from US military law of an illegal order.

Was scrolling to see if anyone mentioned Opus Dei.

Ive heard the current pope has been rooting out OD types and a few other groups from positions in the Vatican and worldwide church leadership, and there's always been overlap between OD et al and the 'Christian' right in the US.

To be clear, I want an outside audit on any plans to change procedures that make it harder for people to access aid.

The amount spent for 'anti fraud' (of benefit recipients, not of contracted agencies) can be more than the actual cash value of the benefits themselves and thats just wrong
December 1, 2025 at 8:58 PM
Id really like for the 'more scrutiny and hoops to prevent fraud!' benefit 'reformers' to have to produce budget data on how much more administration will cost with further tightening and how much they expect that to recapture/prevent.

With an outside audit.

Yep, not a thing. Wendy's is named after the daughter of the founder, too. No need for a hidden mom tribute, nor would marketing it as mom'ish fit in with heir brand positioning really

Just coincidental.

(3) The actually-interesting story that the NPR reporter completely flubbed is that THIS ENTIRE "CENTRIST" OUTLET IS 100% REPUBLICANS TRYING TO SEED THIRD-PARTY SPOILER CANDIDACIES TO HELP THEIR PARTY MAINTAIN CONTROL IN 2026.

Everyone in the Independent Center worked for Trump, FreedomWorks, etc.

Yeah. It's not my area but I've stumbled across a few papers in the last year or so in that direction. Anyone trying to use that for a business now is jumping way ahead. No thank you from me, as well.

Can only guess it's a dumb business attempt to use research like this to fleece people.

Fwiw I think the ND community needs to keep an eye on this sort of thing.

Disney World (Orlando) was advertising steep discounts here in the UK, too.

My assumption is foreign tourism is way down in the US, and domestic tourism is squeezed by cost of living issues and lack of consumer confidence.

Plus a whole layer of maybe getting snatched for a lot of folks.
