IRW — a Pulitzer-winning nonprofit newsroom at American — and @thebarbedwire.com traced the history of anti-trans legislation. Houston conservatives realized homophobia didn’t fly anymore, weaponized girls’ safety, and parroted segregationist language. It worked.

We fostered a puppy for a couple days since we have a yard, now and it went really well and we got a bunch of free dog food out of it that our dog loves. I’ve missed this and we’ll definitely be doing it again.

Apparently my first neurology appointment was retroactively not covered by my insurance even tho I was told it was. It is covered by my new insurance so I’m on a payment plan to cover the first appointment and I had to reschedule the follow up twice. Nobody knows why the first one isn’t covered, now

Figuring out health insurance is a pain. I can’t get dental and keep my neurologist but actually also I have to get dental but I have to do it separately… ?

REPORTER: What do the Somalians have to do with this Afghan guy who shot the National Guard members?

TRUMP: Ah, nothing. But Somalians have caused a lot of trouble. They're ripping us off.

The day got better. Our dog and the neighbor dog are proper friends now. Hedy asked to go out just to see her pal, earlier. It was really cute. We also had friends bring over some good food and stay a while, which was lovely. I do wish I could’ve gone home, especially now, but this was really nice.

If you’re good to your dogs, dogs are good for depression days. No sleeping all day when someone relies on you to use the bathroom comfortably and eat. Even better if the dog is the kind that needs a full walk, not just a couple minutes in the yard. I’m extra glad to have this pup, today.

Cats are a lot.
The dog had a playful moment with a neighbor dog and had a nice little mutual nose-sniff moment with one of the cats, today. I think moving to a new place, recently, has been good for everyone.

A couple days after this piece was published, I went to my local TDOR. I had lost a local friend that year to suicide and they were going to honor her that night.

The small gathering was touching. I cried through my friend's commemoration and choked up each time one of the women I wrote about...
Read this piece I contributed to in 2017. This piece, talking with the friends and families of murdered Black trans women, still haunts me to this day.

1. Nearly every transgender person walks this earth knowing people like us who are no longer with us.

In writing about transgender people every day, I hold in my heart the people who are now our ancestors, and I try to bring their light forward.

These are the people I'm remembering today.

I had a lovely chat with @tekla.bsky.social in writing this story, and the memorial itself I found quite moving, especially seeing someone from my hometown among the people we've lost this year.
