Maybe we are returning to normal. A very funny piece about American revolutionary war re-enactors, with no political derangement (and a half admission that loyalists were good people). www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

A quotation from **Marcus Aurelius**

> The first rule is, to keep an untroubled spirit; for all things must bow to Nature’s law, and soon enough you must vanish into nothingness, like Hadrian and Augustus. The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are, remembering […]

[Israel, Palestine]

Two years ago today was the vicious Hamas October 7th attack. So much suffering of innocents on that day, so much suffering since. That was of course what Hamas wanted; their plan was to provoke a response from the Israeli government that would eventually weaken […]

Only the military remains outside Trump’s grip. Despite the firing of several top officers—and his threat to fire more—the U.S. armed forces are still led by generals and admirals whose oath is to the Constitution, not the president. But for how long?

@sboots I'm opposed to many types of #electoralreform, but I do think that #rankedvoting could improve things a bit on the margin. I hope the Yukon tries this out.

Are Yukoners generally dissatisfied with the current electoral system, or is this essentially a top-down project? Has there been […]

Notice the conflating here of "fascism" and "authoritarian." I've said, repeatedly, we're in the middle of an authoritarian assault. But going from this to "America is now fascist" is bonkers.

This history of QNX is facinating. The part that got me was about the ICON computers, which were in my school's computer lab.

They were really heavy and had a really cool trackball.

This is an 1980s computer system with a monitor, a large base, a keyboard with number pad and a large trackball on the right hand side. The screen says Unisys ICON.
