I noticed it first in Skyrim, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it in some other games as well. basically just a bypass for trash mobs back to the entrance point, sometimes just an alternate zone-out point that unlocks from the inside.

how do you feel about having locked doors in the back of the boss chamber that lead rapidly back to the entrance and can be unlocked only after the boss is dead?

I worked at a national non-profit and for years afterwards got mail addressed to His Excellency. Most databases just pull from the post office table that has every recognized salutation. talk about a rabbit hole.

slightly off topic, but you said '2004' so here it is: I think that 2004 was the point of no return because it popularized the term "flip-flop", and in crippling fear of doing that, the electorate as a whole resolved to never learn anything ever again.
