So it’s Thanksgiving Day in Canada and this is your reminder it is not “Canadian Thanksgiving.”

WE STARTED THANKSGIVING. Like most good things, Americans stole the idea off us.

It began in 1578 as a harvest celebration. It was an official holiday in 1879.

It remains a harvest celebration.
Thanksgiving in Canada
The first official, annual Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated on 6 November 1879. However, Indigenous peoples in Canada have a history of celebrating the fa...

Police do meet people on the other side more often than we hear about but it probably isn't as often as they should. When I'm on the ferry I just imagine people who leave their car alarms on being arrested but that might be going a bit too far! :)
mrussellphoto.bsky.social
I have a friend who is a deckhand and yes, they do. I wish they could be banned from the ferry system too. Well, for the more severe stuff. He certainly has some good stories.

I need to watch that one again. Been far too long.

I found it! Well, I think this is what you meant.

Oh I wasn't suggesting paying for it, just wondering if even the paying people get something that would seem like a basic feature.
mrussellphoto.bsky.social
That seems like pretty basic functionality - IMDB Pro perhaps?

I think they stopped making clones in the early 90's. Is Radio Shack still around down there? They are long gone from Canada.

Where are these foxes hanging out during the day? I know the coyotes in Vancouver den in various parks/yards but I don't think Vancouver has 10k of them.

I can't tell you what is going on just over the border because I sure as hell ain't going down there.
mrussellphoto.bsky.social
Maybe. RCMP has a lot of vehicles along there too, and have for a long time as well. Generally unmarked, however.

They would probably get people wanting to leave at the border checkpoints they have setup before you even hit the border. That part is new, and mostly for Peace Arch I think.

"Baker Blues" for #MountainMonday

Photo from September 2022 when we met @mrussellphoto.bsky.social & Alan Majchrowicz for a hike. The blue haze was induced by relatively distant wildfires.

A color landscape photo showing a grouping of mountains and ridges receding into blue, wildfire-induced haze under a clear sky. The landscape is sparsely vegetated with low-growing shrubs and a few groups of coniferous trees.

This isn't a full loss - its just a clock reset. :)

Happy Birthday! This is indeed good weather to relax in. :)

If someone had told me I'd spend this much time pondering an image of chill peppers stuck in sand I'd have been skeptical. The only excuse I can see for it is it being an AI hallucination. Even reverse image search didn't yield any answers.
mrussellphoto.bsky.social
I will do that too, but that is helped along by remembering the times I didn't and wish I had.
mrussellphoto.bsky.social
That sounds like an appropriate response to whoever initially screwed that up.

Congrats! Wasn't it just a few months ago we talked about having to photograph more trains as they seem to sell? Even I've managed to sell a train photo on there.

Between this, the English Bay beach logs, and countless other things I'm often left wondering what the park board is thinking, if they even are.

For #ThrowbackThursday I have a photo of Harbour Centre in Vancouver from my first day of using a DSLR back in 2007. What a difference from a film camera! A lot of the photos from that day were not great, but I still like this one quite a lot. Not sure that glass dome is even still there...
Looking up at a tall, rectangular office building with a round revolving restaurant on top of it. The view of the office/restaurant building is through a very large skylight with circular rings expanding from the centre. The sky behind the building is blue.

I've seen similar with a decent sized Bass. I guess if it fits down the hole, they'll eat it!
