PAY ATTENTION: ICE is filing fake 911 calls in Chicago, weaponizing emergency services to provoke local police.

Ordinary citizens would be charged with a felony. ICE calls it strategy.

The US is a semi-authoritarian state. Folks need to grasp that it's not all or nothing -- authoritarianism has a sliding scale. Different states repress in different ways; some are harder on commerce than on speech or vice versa. Pundits deny the complexity in order to dismiss real, growing threats.

It's never going to not sound insane to me when ICE complains about getting surveilled/harassed/assaulted/etc at work, when every day, across the country, they get paid to surveil, harass, assault and kidnap people, often at work.
For profit & propaganda.

*The shutdown does not give Vought any new authorities. He was pursuing RIFs before the shutdown, and previous shutdowns have not triggered RIFs.
*Thune and other Senators voted for Vought even after he told them he planned to use impoundments.
