Helping a parent renew their Dutch passport online, and I am pleasantly surprised to see British Somaliland as one of the options for places of birth. Representation matters.

I was asked to write about my achievements, and thank God I write blogs. I am forgetful, so I added that I've been a speaker at the RCN Leadership and Management Forum Conference, Christie NHS Trust, and I was invited to a roundtable with Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting.

I went to visit my next placement to introduce myself and I passed an former crisis resolution home treatment team where I did many Bank shifts and brought them some biscuits. They said they say ‘Mushtag’s style’ in their team when doing
assessment aka to a high standard 😂 This is such a compliment!

The year 2025 is almost ending. It has been busy. 2026 would be the year of slowing down and bearing the fruits God willing. I hope I get to witness it with family + friends because life is precious. Every day we wake up and return home safely is a blessing. Grateful for the growth. #MondayThoughts

I am thrilled to have a successful outcome for advocacy for a Somali family with a disabled child with no stairs in the building having impact on their mental health. They were housed shortly afterwards, and OT and Social Services reviewed their needs.

I feel so rested. I have been reflecting and considering writing a blog about what it would be like ‘if I were an NHS CEO’ later on.

Full weekend off. I am not working. I am not studying. I am not on placement. Bliss.

What a beautiful message to read this morning from a very senior nurse leader 💙.

One of the highlights of today's leadership event was seeing my best friend talking to a South Asian Chief Nurse and resonating with her story, as well as sharing contacts. The representation is powerful, to be seen, to be inspired, and to be heard 💙.

As always, it left me inspired and thought-provoked by the te fire chats and speeches.

It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, many of whom I don’t know their names, but I feel like I know them.

A Chief Nurse has just advised me to complete my preceptorship and apply for a Band 7 role, citing my previous experience in management within the NHS, skills, and education. She said I can be fast-tracked once I graduate, and to keep her updated.

With the last assignment for Part 2 submitted today on deadline, I look forward to having a bit of a break. I‘m looking to attending the second anniversary conference tomorrow of Amaree Women Network with my close friend. I look forward to introducing her to a Deputy Chief Nurse of her Trust I know.

I believe that therapists end up on one side of the consulting room for the same reason patients end up on the other – they want to fix themselves.

God bless nursing academics; they are one of my favourite leaders. I am going to nominate a few nursing academics, a practice development nurse and my university for the Nursing Times Awards. The deadline is soon, 15th December 2025.

I think it's a problem that sensitive, quieter people who tend to notice things, & whose observations could be so useful, come up against organisational infrastructure that favours 'alpha' kinds of people.

“So you will become a nurse?”
“Yes, next year.”
“So, what were you studying before then?”
“Something else.”
“What can you do with those qualifications?”
“Research for one.”
“You should have studied nursing much earlier.”
“😄”.
An actual conversation with a relative just now 😂. It wasn’t my time then.
