This is called "diplomacy" — talking with your friends & your enemies, recognizing that both sides have legitimate strategic interests, seeing what's possible, acting in the best interests of your respective countries rather than demonizing each other. It used to be a normal part of civilization.

So what? If the original were Russian or Latin or Klingon would it matter to, for example:

It's simply justice: 38% of Ukrainians are Russian speaking. They are a supermajority in the Donbas. Apartheid Ukraine is denying them language, religious, political, and cultural rights. Why on earth would they want to return to Ukrainian rule? America's revolutionary war was fought for much less.

It is not Trump that the nation needs to recover from.
It is rule by the oligarchy that the nation needs to recover from.
Trump is simply a somewhat rogue mushroom growing from the ongoing bipartisan oligarchical mycelium.
