Mutantfrog.com. Researched Japan colonial history at Kyoto U. Formerly lived in New Jersey, Kyoto, Taipei, Brooklyn. Love games. Now resident in Tokyo, working in a job unrelated to any of the above things I prefer to talk about.
There was reporting earlier that DPFP may support the LDP on a PM vote so more likely that, but at this point who knows.

Sure looks like some big news is about to break at LDP headquarters. Loads of cops and reporters around, but no other civilians. One reporter with a TV camera told me they're here on a tip but couldn't tell me what about, other than that they're all still waiting for it.

Any predictions?

Love this book and so glad it's getting a translation.
Putting the final touches on this, and I want to say thanks to @dandq.bsky.social for being such diligent editors. It is truly a treasure and delight to work with folks who care this much.

Gonna be a banger, folks! Shigeru Mizuki personally asked for this one to be released in English.

Guess who was in Tokyo at an event for the new far-right anti-immigration party just a few days ago?

On X, Masaki Nobushiro posts a recurring (and useful) drawing about how people wrongly think a 1m tsunami is a cresting wave when it's actually a wall of water filled with dangerous and deadly debris that's strong enough to sweep up a car.

A rule of thumb for tsunamis is that in open ocean, they move at similar speeds to commercial airliners. If you're ever curious how long it would take for a tsunami to get from one place to another, look up the duration of a similar-length flight.

The magnitude has been further refined to M8.8. It may seem like 8.7 and 8.8 are close, but the difference actually means about 40% more energy released. Logarithmic scales will do that!

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God.

Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

Gaza is starving. Where are the American Jewish leaders?
A fear of being labelled antisemitic still deters American Jews and Jewish institutions from taking a position that is morally correct.

Mishima Yukio in 1948, a year before he published his seminal semi-autobiographical novel, Confessions of a Mask. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him looking so early-Showa-esque. He looks ready to star in the Asakusa vaudevilles. Far cry from the purposefully macho look he’d cultivate until his death.

Nice to see someone writing about legal history who has some understanding of history, unlike the amateur historians that populate the American judiciary and much of American legal academia.
Professor Wurman has made claims that I think fundamentally misapprehend the history and politics of England and Scotland. I also think it overlooks major evidence in the law that runs counter to his position.

Manzanar was a fascinating place to visit and I highly recommend it if you happen to be in the area. Which, I'll admit, is rather unlikely as they put it in the middle of a deadly and isolated hellscape.
The regime has posted signs at Manzanar, the WWII concentration camp for Japanese Americans, asking visitors to report "negative" historical interpretations. Hard to imagine a positive interpretation but it's probably just an excuse to shut down the park.

Signs to police 'negative' history went up at Manzanar. Historians are nervous.

An unexpected Cool Japan cameo in the form of leading precedent relevant to the tariffs.

"One of those companies was Yoshida — now known as YKK — which challenged the tariff on zippers imported from Japan."

Yesterday, I uploaded the ISO image of one of the rarest videogames known to exist, of which a single copy is known to exist in the online world. After years of appeals, its owner finally agreed to share it with me so that I could in turn share it with the world.
