Today marks International #DemocracyDay.

Democracy matters - and it cannot be taken for granted.

Our voting system leaves swathes of people feeling powerless and fuels disillusionment, which can have dangerous consequences.

Change can't wait. We need #PRnow.

Britain's voting system dates back to the 19th century.

First Past the Post is outdated, unfair and increasingly delivers results that have little to do with what the country wants.

This #DemocracyDay, I'm calling for Proportional Representation - a fair system where every vote counts.

Today is International Day of Democracy. In the UK, we routinely elect Gvts with a minority of votes, and most of our parliament is entirely unelected, with a bloated upper chamber stuffed with patrons and a few clerics.

We need major constitutional reform but have few turkeys voting for Xmas.

I'd urge you all to get behind @emmacampaigner.bsky.social and her organisation @makevotesmatter.bsky.social in the push for PR, and to keep the pressure up on the current Gvt to make their forthcoming Elections Bill meaningful not mealy-mouthed.
