yeah I think this is the thing that people are going to get in trouble for, but I also remember a former mentor taking trips to Russia....this was some years ago, but not that long ago

this sounds like they could pin almost anyone...like you go give a talk in another country (something often looked for in promotion as having an "international reputation") and that could be viewed as compensation?
