#Yarmouk was destroyed & stripped to the ground. What’s striking is the lack of anything other than cement. Not a piece of furniture, not a tile. It’s the kind of destruction you undertake when you want to ensure people can’t return. #Syria

Great step forward in accountability and ending the scourge of chemical weapons in Syria. The DG said, “This visit marks a reset. After eleven years of obstruction by the previous authorities”

Assad appears to have left the country, after 100s of thousands disappeared, tortured, & killed and millions displaced.

54 years of Assad seemingly over

To Syria with love.

“Whenever people ask me why I left them in the pot & didn’t plant them in the camp, I told them that I would plant them in Madiq Castle when I returned, I bought them for this reason. I didn’t lose hope of returning despite all the fear & oppression that we were living in” #Syria

This is big. Opposition calling on military conscripts in #Daraa & #Quneitra to defect, w/ safety guarantees for those who comply. Reportedly many defections from security apparatuses in Daraa. Many others fled to Damascus

Negotiations for regime withdrawal in Salamiyah, which has the largest Ismaili population. Not to say there aren’t Ismailis that oppose the regime - there have been many

If the rebels pull that off & protect the pop, it would be a big indicator to other minorities #Syria

The rebels have captured Hama city.

This & western Aleppo city are sign. but challenging wins. The opp. never controlled them. That means many people left but many there today stuck w/ the regime.

This is Hama 1982 & 2011 before the regime started shooting at protesters. #Syria

Scrambling for friends, Assad’s Twitter profile emphasizes that he is calling everyone to make the case that he is key to stability & stopping terrorism. Except he keeps proving to be the key to instigating both.

Lots of rumors about coup in Damascus & Syria state TV not airing.

State TV is still airing. Might be some clashes but there were random clashes a few weeks ago too.

That said rebels are heading to Hama city & Golani said they will go to Damascus.

Please follow trusted people that follow Syria.

No way that the opposition could take parts of Aleppo city & 65km of the M5 & Tel Rifaat highway w/o the go ahead of Turkey & Russia: esp. given the public statements of both govts. Perhaps to push negotiations.

Still that’s a lot & this map is already outdated

Can’t confirm but looks to show rebels capturing some of the regime’s MANPADS.

The opposition has been asking for these for over a decade to protect communities from aerial bombardment. #Syria

Remember Russian/Syrian planes are still pounding other parts of opposition-controlled Idlib as rebels enter Aleppo. Dozens have been killed in recent weeks as the Syrian regime bombarded the NW to deter a rebel offensive.

These areas, as always, need protection from the skies.

Betting the Assad regime wishes they took Turkey’s attempts to reconcile more seriously right now.

I’m not saying Ankara is behind the current rebel offensive in Aleppo. I’m saying they’re not stopping it. #syria

Opposition forces have entered Aleppo city. Rebels never had control of these areas.

Lots of new pro-Syrian regime propaganda makers since the last time Syria was in the news.

Please be careful. Friendly reminder that the regime disproportionately harmed Palestinians. This is the siege of mukhayim Yarmouk 2014 & Tadamon Massacre. Many of the victims Palestinian

Another issue: Hezbollah is the govt in many parts of southern Lebanon. It is unclear how 100s of 1,000s return & rebuild w/o a governing infrastructure that they’re accustomed to. The inevitable difficulties of rebuilding will also rebuild the “resistance”. Will the LAF confront that? Not so sure

Many things remain uncertain but I do fear that a ceasefire that detaches Gaza from Lebanon, means things will just continue to get worse in Gaza and the West Bank for the foreseeable future.

I hope I'm wrong. Would be nice to have a real peace agreement instead of ceasefires.
