We invite you to watch this video that uses satire to skewer factory farming & spark conversation about animal welfare.

Livestock production has become more consolidated, causing big problems for animals, workers & the communities where animals are raised.

Yes, we celebrated the rise of organic foods & the trans fat ban, our 1975 Time Capsule analysis reminds us of 2 major failures:

- Junk food marketing to kids is still allowed.
- Sodium in processed/restaurant foods is still unregulated.

What new policies would you like to see?

If you think today's dinner plate looks different than 1975, you're right. Americans are eating one-third less beef but more than twice as much poultry!

That's one of the biggest shifts revealed in the 1975 Food Time Capsule analysis.

1975 Time Capsule win: Heart disease deaths are down 77% per 100K since the mid-70s! Statins, less smoking, trans fat bans, & Nutrition Labels show science-guided policy works. What's the next big win?

A nutrition advocate with a PhD from MIT, Michael F. Jacobson founded the National Food Museum. He has over 40 years of experience, helping to bring about key food policy changes like Nutrition Facts labels, menu calorie counts, and the ban on artificial trans fat. The federal government issued a report on strategies to improve children’s health. But it's hard to take those recommendations seriously when this pro-business, anti-regulatory administration has mounted an anti-health campaign against...

Kudos to RFK Jr. for pressuring food makers to ditch synthetic dyes. Kraft Heinz (Jell-O, Kool-Aid, etc.) and General Mills (Lucky Charms, etc.) just said they would do that by the end of 2027. (Kennedy’s progress on dyes, of course, doesn’t negate the severe harm regarding NIH, CDC, and vaccines.)

The MAHA report (rightly) blames ultra-processed foods for promoting obesity & chronic disease. It questions certain pesticides. However, Trump has fired thousands of scientists at NIH and FDA and wants to slash SNAP and Medicaid budgets. Not a way to improve children’s health. Check link for more.

USDA is letting Nebraska block SNAP dollars from buying soda—one way to try to improve diets, as health experts have long urged. Big question: will people buy less soda or just use their own cash to buy them. Meanwhile, House Republicans want to cut the SNAP budget by almost $300B per year.

So amusing: the day before the FDA said that food dyes were so dangerous to children that they would have to be banned, President Trump hosted the annual Easter Egg Roll, for which the National Confectioners Association provided candy that contained dyes like Airheads and Welch's. #easter #fooddye

BYE-BYE FOOD DYES ❌
FDA commissioner Marty Makary put his bully pulpit to good use in announcing today that the FDA would phase out synthetic dyes (e.g. Red 40) in processed foods, a priority of RFK Jr. Most such foods are aimed at kids, and dyes trigger behavioral problems (like ADHD) in many kids.
Red dye No. 3 has been banned, but what about other artificial food dyes?
Health officials banned the artificial food color known as Red 3 from the U.S. food supply in January, citing a federal statute and cancer risks in lab rats.

Honey, WHERE is the Honey??
Many packaged foods brag about the use of honey—but many have very little honey. Kellogg’s Honey Snacks, which is 50% added sugars—has more sugar & more glucose syrup than honey. WISEcode calls that a “health halo.” See the link below for more details. 🍯🐝 #honey #sugar
Is Honey Being Used As a Health Halo Sweetener?
Some food brands use honey combined with added sugars to tout “Made with Real Honey” on their labels.
