I am a big fan of wild foods and do some limited foraging, but paw-paws have a really short shelf life and have never found a tree at the correct time. Luckily, my brother found one and shared.

I ate a paw-paw for the first time on Sunday. For those not aware, they are a native fruit here in North America. I live near the trees' northern range. The skin is a green color with a texture similar to mango. The flesh is yellow with lime bean sized seeds. It tastes like a banana/pineapple.

The only winning move is not to play.

If I were Kimmel, I would find a guy to play FCC Commisioner Carr in every episode from now until the end of his term.

Have him start his monolog, and when it gets to anything concerning Trump, cut to Carr shaking his head.

We have reached, Jimmy Kimmel is secretly beaming messages to ANTIFA assassins, level discord. Congratulations folks!

An angle that occurred to me is that whatever Trump is getting treatments for is terminal, and they want to set a precedent for a clamp down when he dies.

Stop electing these people. They should be shunned and driven from public life because, unlike the people they hate, they absolutely chose to be hate filled barbarians.

Members of the Christian community undertake a campaign of terror against abortion providers for decades: Obviously, we shouldn't judge all of them by the actions of a few.

A shooter might have known a person who is Trans: We probably should remove all their civil rights just to be safe.

These bastards really are the worst people to be in charge. This is why daddy drinks.

It is a struggle to stay positive. The family tradition is gallows humor, but eventually, the morbidity of the jokes start to grow the same despair that you are trying to deflect.

Would be super pathetic, but for them having the resources to save the world from actually sliding into a dark age.

You can save the world, but teenage memesters will still mock you for getting a hair transplant.

"A bridge too far, I say!"

The whole Thiel anti-christ obsession is weird. I think the billionaire class has brain poisoned themselves into apocalyptic nihilism.

They can't exercise the control they feel they deserve to have over people, so they are daydreaming about the world ending.

And I was just one visitor. I left with these pictures, blistered feet, and a sense of quiet contentment and peace that lasted me months.
A calm Lake Superior with the sun shining off the water. No land in sight.

And the visitors came as well. Taking copper from the amygdaloidal basalt. Thousands of years of visitors to this good place.
One of the old copper mines of Isle Royale gapes from a hillside.

The island's stones were created by a massive lavaflow over a billion years ago. Glaciers carved it over twelve thousand years ago and made it an island. Life filled it since then, one venture at a time.

My route was six nights, 52 miles. The longest hike of my life, (so far). I stayed at Lane Cove, McCargo, Todd Harbor, West Chickenbone, Moskey Basin, and Three Mile.
A forest stretches out to the lakeshore. A sailboat is a tiny stick in the water.

Realizing it was never going to happen by itself, I talked to my wife and picked a date. I told my friends I was going and the date ton book for the ferry. Sadly it didn't work out for them. So I did it alone.

My hiking group attempted to plan a trip, but life got in the way. During the intervening 13 years, I got married, had two kids, and buried both of my parents. My friends equally had happy additions and sad subtraction to their lives.

Isle Royale was a long-term goal for me. I started hiking back in 2011. One of my first purchases was Jim DuFresne's Backpacking in Michigan. It had an entire section on the park.

My last day on Isle Royale. Another foggy morning. This was my shortest day, coming from Three Mile Campground into Rock Harbor. I took frequent breaks to watch the water and take in the silence.
A small tree grows among tufts of grass on a rocky cliff. Fog obscures the horizon as Lake Superior fades into an overcast sky.

Another shot of the lighthouse a couple miles down the trail. The mist had started to burn off. The weather was amazing with the daytime highs in the most 70s. I got rained on once the entire trip for about four minutes.

During my sixth day on Isle Royale a fog cloud swept in. I had promised a work friend that I would try to get her a picture of a lighthouse. I thought I had missed it, but discovered this in what I thought was a random snapshot. I couldn't see it at the time due to the fog, but the camera got it.

Day 5 of last year's trip to Isle Royale. Moskey Basin. Something very large ran through my camp that night and snagged on my tent guideline. It could have been a fox... but I am going to hold to my belief that it was a wolf.
Calm waters are framed by trees just starting to show fall colors. Across the water a ridge runs covered with trees. Miles away it opens up into Lake Superior.
