Youth services have been cut by 73% since 2010. But Labour is rebuilding them:

✅ £88m funding for youth clubs & after-school activities
✅ 1 million extra hours of youth work in areas hardest hit by anti-social behaviour
✅ Support for Scouts, Guides & Cadets

Croydon’s trams are over 20 years old, and I’ve continued to make the case for investment to the Mayor of London. Thanks to the multi-year funding settlement from this government, TfL is now moving forward with plans to procure a brand new fleet for our community.

Last night, as Chair of the APPG on Youth Affairs, I invited young people to Parliament to share their views on social media. They called for stronger protections to keep them safe while allowing creativity and connection. Thanks to all who took part.

Today, Labour launches the £500M Better Futures Fund, the largest of its kind in the world. It will support up to 200,000 young people with safer communities, better education and caring support to help them thrive by tackling school absence, addiction and reoffending early.

In the Chamber today, I raised the incredible achievement of the Astrogazers from Croydon High School for Girls, set to become the first all girls school in the world to launch a CubeSat into space. A powerful reminder of what happens when women are backed in STEM.

This government is building on the legacy of Sure Start by rolling out up to 1,000 new Best Start Family Hubs across the country.

Investing in early years provision means investing in the future of our communities.

This morning, I attended a service of commemoration at St Paul’s Cathedral to remember those who lost their lives on 7th July 2005.

We honour the bravery of the emergency responders and hold the survivors and bereaved families in our thoughts.

We will never forget.

Mental health issues among children and young people are on the rise but in England, more than half still aren't getting the treatment they need.

That’s why this Labour Government is expanding mental health support in schools and bringing care closer to home. #politicslive

It's been 97 years since women won the vote on equal terms with men. As the 651 woman elected to Parliament, I’m grateful to those who paved the way and determined to support the next generation to go further. Thank you Centenary Action & RE:MAKE Newport for marking the occasion.

Proud of the action this government is taking to tackle knife crime. From 1 August, ninja swords will be banned.

Croydon Police are running a surrender scheme this month. If you want to dispose of a ninja sword anonymously, use the amnesty bin outside Croydon Police Station.

Delighted that @SouthernRailUK have paused their decision to remove cycle racks at East Croydon station. Congratulations to the residents who are spearheading this campaign. We now need a long term plan for bike parking at the station

I've written to the CEO of Southern Railway asking them to reverse the decision to close the cycle racks at East Croydon Station. We should be encouraging cyclists with secure, accessible bike parking - not taking it away.
