In universe, Olimar named the Bulborbs after his own dog Bulbie. The two share many similarities; only having 2 legs, a large head, eyestalks, and spots on their backside. Bulbie is also said to have a big appetite for Pikpik carrots. This is also likely why the Grub-dog family is called what it is.
