I said as much to friends back in 2021. Faced with budgetary issues due to an ageing population, Covid is a blessing to most governments as it kills off the problem.
There is no other explanation for the inept response in 2020.

Love your work. Would also love to see the graph of the 25 years before that, when we built entire suburbs of public housing. Construction was already being wound down by the mid 70s.
Entire suburbs of low rent housing so the occupants could save the 25% needed to buy a place of their own.
