Thank you kindly!
These paintings are done in Procreate on the iPad. I like working in Procreate because it more closely resembles the oil and tempra painting techniques I’ve used for most of my career.

The Yellow-thighed brushfinch (Atapetes tibialis) painting.

This one went through a lot of iterations to get to this state. I wanted to illustrate their tendency to small family groups.

I’ve always noticed nesting material is often wound around a branch but until I recorded this could never figure out how!

A Common tody Flycatcher (Todirostrum cinereum) building it’s hanging nest in Costa Rica. At the 18 second mark it winds a spider thread around the branch, interesting!

The only photo I have of the Tody Motmot, not great but…

For some reason it’s the only species that comes when I bird call with my own voice, I’m really crappy at it with every other species.
Costa Rican birders are scary good at accurate bird calls and song.

I do agree completely.
It’s something I’ve always tried to emphasize when teaching the occasional art class.
Thanks again!

Procreate feels pretty nice coming from traditional mediums.
It’s great to have these choices for sure.
Cheers!

Thanks!
Oil and acrylic most of my life but gave up the studio space in 2011 to go sailing.
It’s difficult painting with traditional mediums in a tiny sailboat and since I wanted to continue painting made the choice for the iPad.
I do miss the comforting studio smells of oil paint though😉
