dred scott, in their minds, established the united states as a place of tiered citizenship and permanent inequality among americans. it was a ruling that said, in effect, that all men *were not* created equal and would *never* be treated as such.

what follows immediately after the birthright clause? the privileges and immunities and due process clauses? and what follows them? the equal protection clause. all of this is explicitly to say, "the declaration is the constitutional law of the land"

I truly believe that most people are better than this, but being quiet and passively good doesn't help anyone. People who believe in decency need to get as active and exercised as these evil fucks.

Or else the evil takes over. We've seen this whole story play out before, many times.

"The SC Justices have been overworked"

That's literally the argument Gov Cox just made in Utah for expanding the state court when it ruled against him on redistricting.

I offer this up as an "ignore the screeching from the right" pointer for expanding SCOTUS.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Academics, you will not exonerate yourself with the documents you turn over.

If you receive one of these letters, internalize that immediately. This is the House UnAmerican Activities Committee redux. You have to be proactive in communicating publicly.
