#31 - Crimson Shroud

I would play a dozen of these — a bite-sized RPG dungeon crawl from the folks behind FFT and Vagrant Story that REALLY commits to conveying the flavor of a tabletop adventure. And just like Vagrant Story, I forgive it for its handful of unfriendly design choices.

Rewatching The X-Files, probably my favorite show of all time despite the cruft of its later seasons, and I gotta admit that its drama about clandestine organizations manipulating the world from the shadows hits different in an era where nakedly corrupt buffoons trash everything with public bumbling

One of the difficult things about being married, as a man, is that your wife seems to grow more beautiful and radiant with each year that passes while you yourself rapidly begin to look like this

I've been noodling around with Aquanaut's Holiday, which was the first game I ever owned for the original PlayStation and which I absolutely did not appreciate as an eleven-year-old

Went to a board game cafe with the kids to celebrate making it through the week and unlocked a long-dormant childhood memory by playing Home Alone: The Board Game. (Photo not mine.)

#30 - System Shock (2023)

What a lovely remaster! Faithful to the original’s cruelty and poor conveyance (at least on the default difficulty settings), but with plenty of tweaks and new spit and polish to help it *feel* modern. Nightdive did a bang-up job here!

#29 - Tactical Breach Wizards

Best writing in any game I’ve played this year. Delightful dialogue, lovable characters, and to top it all off, the best thinky strategy in anything I’ve played since Into the Breach. Absolutely do not sleep on this one.

#27 Alan Wake II: Night Springs

Oh man, what a hoot! Just a couple hours long, clever reuse of assets, confusing and deliberately misleading relationship to “canon” — every element designed to frustrate Gamers and positively delight me. Remedy is cookin’, and I say: let them.

Read my way through PC Gamer's yearly Top 100 list and realized I had a considerable number of them in my backlog, given away as freebies on various storefronts. Twenty-three of them, to be exact, more than I could finish in a year if it was the only gaming I did. 😩
