Always thinking about parking
You have to understand that people in suburban America are already in mortal fear of “strangers walking by your house“

For people not familiar with Menlo Park, California (located adjacent to Stanford University)

A lot of times people assume that housing is unaffordable because BILLIONAIRES and CORPORATIONS. But frequently in California it’s because of ordinary mom dad grandma grandpa like these folks, who are protesting parking lots being turned into new low income housing

Jfc this job posting for an in-home teacher.

Candidate must have a STEM Masters or phD, must have a plan for the kid to score 99th percentile on the SAT.

But not allowed to teach the kid about… homelessness

Cupertino spent the last billion years fighting the Vallco replacement project. And now because of interest rates, tariffs, and all the other macro stuff the affordable housing part doesn’t pencil out.

This is going to be great NIMBY copypasta material forever

Search for “Trump divided the country, extorted Zelenskyy, tried to steal an election, incited an insurrection, stole confidential” on here. I thought I was losing my mind… but no! It really does keep getting posted:

OK so it turns out a lot of you don't have $3M lying around. Who knew I had so many poor followers.

Don't worry, I got you fam: here's a nice 3/1 1015sqft that you can more easily afford in Cupertino!

It's got appliances! And it's got those 3 magic words: Monta. Vista. High.

Buy it now!

This doesn't even make any sense. Rishi Kumar is running for Santa Clara County Assessor so that he can support a *statewide* Proposition to end property taxes for seniors? That's not the job!

That makes just as much sense as his affordable housing plan based on Hyperloop!
December 5, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Please repost!

Dear People of Santa Clara County. Please make a plan to vote in the Dec 30 run-off election for county assessor.

Please vote for Neysa Fligor to show that you don't support the Hyperloop fan Rishi Kumar, who is now trying to further wreck the local cities and schools of California!
December 5, 2025 at 8:51 PM
Hey Seetharaman - I agree with you that Rishi Kumar is pandering to seniors on his campaign to exempt seniors from property taxes, but you're missing the bigger issue: he can't actually do that as assessor.

Speaking of which, a reminder to vote for Neysa Fligor on Dec 30!

I was trying to find an article about how Erewhon opposed an apartment building, but instead I found this and now I’m 💀

Much cheaper solution

This lot will be fine. It’s quite inland, not too far from Alma

Looking for a Christmas gift your kid? Why not buy this house in Palo Alto with “endless opportinity”!

it has a FAR of 2,745 sqft! After you buy the house ($3M) and build a new one (2745x$750) you’ll have a wonderful gift! $5M is just a few shares of NVDA anyway!

Open this weekend!

Let's take a look at a letter that was sent to the Caltrain board of directors (public domain)!

"attempted homicide", "SamTrans/Caltrans [sic] African bus driver reverse discrimination", "my claim for damages against SamTranes[sic] is $2.2 million dollars", "woke", "Charlie Kirk".

Good stuff!

OK, it's true that the last 2 years have been pretty awful with layoffs... but I'm pretty sure Lee is wrong when they say "Don't need more homes, there's no jobs" in Silicon Valley

Do you know anyone who has a job in Silicon Valley? Reply and let me know!

1978 was a great year in California politics
December 4, 2025 at 7:33 PM
So now you agree he deserves this sign!
December 4, 2025 at 7:32 PM
This thread goes on to blame media, which I agree somewhat - especially on "It could happen to YOU" crime stories.

But I think about the people on NextDoor who still post today about how gas used to be 50 cents per gallon. Or how San Carlos was perfect Leave it to Beaver (in 1995?!)
December 4, 2025 at 6:43 PM
After San Francisco passed its downzonings in 1978, it's been a rotating blame game on why housing is unaffordable in SF: legal/bank firms in downtown, dot com boom, uber-for-everything boom, AI boom.

That Gonzales quote is a banger:
December 4, 2025 at 5:56 PM
This is a good read about San Francisco's downzoning of 1978. Check out this clip: people were concerned about SHADOWS and PARKING and HOME VALUES, while knowing this would make housing more unaffordable.

47 years later - same arguments!

Why would your community want to allow more condos when clearly no one wants them compared to single family houses?!

Here's the transcript for this segment so you can read it for yourself. Congrats to Obama for getting a shoutout!

I love this part: Caltrain found $2.44B to switch from diesel to electric. Why don't they pay for the grade crossings?

I dunno. Is it because Caltrain's Right Of Way (tracks) date back to President Lincoln? Or that Palo Alto residents wanted a $4 billion dollar tunnel?
December 4, 2025 at 7:00 AM
May you one day find someone who loves you as much as the editor of the Palo Alto Daily Post loves writing about Caltrain deaths
