Blimey I hadn’t realised that claiming benefits could come with such a financial penalty potentially way in excess of what was claimed. If that was interest charged on a loan the FCA would be knocking n their door

Yes there probably isn’t a perfect option. Would have been fine by now if there was.

As in it’s less for first time buyers?

My understanding is that they have tried to ‘support’ him but not in a way that recognises. He wants ‘support’ like giving your alcoholic friend a drink would be support. You can’t stop adults destroying themselves but doesn’t mean you should help them to do so.

He probably thought he got off at the wrong stop. Colin Dexter knew it. In one of the Morse books an American tourist goes “Arksford, this is Arksford?”

Grew up in Oxford and so much of it especially round there and near the train station is just a bit shit

You’d have a ‘two tier’ system where somebody was paying more than their neighbour with an identical property and would likely cause resentment

Indeed, I thought that term had become frowned on. Seems to be coming back. And in any event they’re not here illegally so it’s just factually incorrect

Oh indeed! May you live in interesting times was meant as a curse remember

I never listened to it but I hated that programme and what I think its message was. But it was a weird time when the parties were “all the same”, a fresh faced Tory leader was talking about spending the “proceeds of growth” and politics was an exercise in technocratic managerialism for weirdos

Thanks but credit goes to @darshna.bsky.social for that!

Also depending on how you define it North Kensington might include parts of Harlesden
November 29, 2025 at 9:53 AM
As a Brixton resident I can vouch for that!

Just weird how a government press release boasting about what they’re doing can include the fact that somebody had to make a 250 mile round trip for a medical appointment without any sense of irony
November 29, 2025 at 9:45 AM
Makes sense considering how old they are
November 29, 2025 at 9:39 AM
Apparently the reason why you see more graffiti on tube trains isn’t because it’s increased but because they no longer have enough rolling stock to be able to take it out of service to have it removed.

They can’t afford the bus fare. Public would be unlikely to accept them being given a bus pass. A system where they could claim the fare in advance would be very bureaucratic and fiddly and end up costing more than using a taxi firm that the Home Office will have an account with

I suspect paying them the fare to get to and from the appointment would be bureaucratic and fiddly and end up costing more than paying for a taxi
