#Peatlands occupy just 3% of all land, but contain more carbon than all of the world’s forests. However, farmers and miners are draining the peatlands, releasing so much CO2 that if they were a country, they would be the fourth biggest polluter in the world after China, the US and India. 🌎🧪🌐

Thought I might track velocity with thermal signal below confluence, but #velocimetry working on Tweed upstream of confluence too! A weak signal, but it was there!

#ARCboat, #ADCP & #drone for shoot with BBC Jon Cuthill. Should feature in upcoming BBC flood special.
Nerdy tech time - note the 2 #HydroSTIV-processed drone videos - average surface velocity 0.93 on Nov 26th & 0.92 today. Also note slightly higher water level in the sunny image.
Nice results!

Thames looking pretty full at Wallingford today (bankfull, to be precise), with lots more water to come from a very wet Cotswolds and North Oxfordshire, where 3-day rainfall totals of 60-75 mm were observed. Today's Sentinel 2 NDVI image shows floodwater best.

☔️Rainfall was 84% of average for the UK
🏞️ River flows were below normal for most of Scotland and above normal in much of England

Today, we drove our #ARCboat and #ADCP across the Thames and it reported a discharge of 65,536 litres a second.
Then we drove it back again, and it reported 65,536 litres a second.

Not even 1 litre a second difference.

#Hydrometry tech at its best!
