Creating & animating sample scenes really helps uncover which parts of the interface are frustrasting/unusable, which parts are buggy/broken, and which parts are working well.

Definitely the most complex UI I've ever attempted (and I also admit that UI is not my strong suit).

I only just discovered that “Party All The Time” is actually by Eddie Murphy! I’d only ever heard it in DJ sets and would never have picked it as his voice.

Another thing Bluesky does genuinely better is search. Both Twitter and Reddit are totally useless in this respect, but every time I use Bluesky it gives me exactly what I’m looking for.

Possibly just my subconscious perceptual gap between moving exactly like a human would and moving slightly differently due to different joints/weight distribution/etc.

There's something so strange about these videos. The way it moves strikes me as uncanny valley territory (particularly when scrambling/recovering). It almost feels like it's CGI/AI, but enough people seem to have vouched for it so I guess that's not it.

I would use a humanoid robot for one thing and one thing only -a freestanding Judo/wrestling dummy. Doesn't even need to offer much in the way feedback, it just needs to be able to keep its balance for the initial entry into a throw.

I wouldn't be willing to pay $21k for one, but who knows?

Sora is not the real problem here. The real problem is that in 12, at most 24 months, there will be a Sora clone from Tencent or Alibaba that is just as good and can be run by anybody with a 5099, at which point everyone in society needs to rapidly agree to treat all digital video as fake, period.

There's so much legacy/inertia behind those architectures that it's difficult to see them going away completely (not to mention the existence of React and TypeScript, which are probably single-handedly going to keep the JS ecosystem alive for decades.

However, it's a vision I can get behind!

His predictions are very optimistic (to put it in modern terms, by 2035 that WASM will have almost entirely displaced native binaries/libraries/APIs, everything is run in sandboxed, CPU-agnostic virtual machines and Javascript is basically dead).

Just discovered the "Birth and Death of Javascript" talk from 2014, back when asm.js was picking up steam and Metal was being developed (a predecessor to WebAssembly I guess, no relation to the Apple graphics API).

I've been reading up on the Vienna Circle, and over the weekend I learned that when Kurt Goedel was applying for American citizenship, he told the judge that Austria was now a dictatorship. The judge replied that thankfully that the USA constitution made that impossible...

Not a zoologist and never had a cat, but I'm pretty sure they're pulling your leg (joking around). Never seen a kangaroo eat meat and even if biologically possible, I doubt they'd bother killing a cat (also most cats prob. wouldn't be stupid enough to get killed by a kangaroo).

Random tidbit for those of you who aren’t aware - yes, we do eat kangaroo meat in Australia (you can buy it in the supermarket) but it’s not common. I’d buy it from time to time as a cheaper red meat. It has a very strong flavour and it’s a bit tough, which is why most people don’t eat it.

I'm keen to know how far you'd get with a Transformer trained purely on valid programs. We can feasibly generate ASTs on-the-fly that can be verified, compiled and executed (possibly with access to an environment). Kind of like building the universe from basic axioms.

The Apple/Google mobile duopoly isn’t just about brain rot games and video apps.

These devices are central to communication and coordination in a modern society. Without the right to install what you want on your own device, you forfeit the ability to organise and oppose the government.
