Well, some time has passed, and now the Steam forum for Peripeteia is filling up with channers calling the devs 'based' for standing up to... trans people.
The 'I wasn't going to buy this game until I heard the devs were bigots' crew.

I will also admit that I'm so wrapped up in actually playing and looking at games that I often don't look too deeply at who's making them. Maybe a flaw, but it keeps me sane. I don't dig into community discords, and tend to avoid fandom drama.
