Cuomo doing as well as he did feels like it has more to do with his having a famous name and the support of the city’s Dem machine than it does with Dem voters in general wanting to give people like Cuomo a pass for their (pretty heinous) sins.

I think Sonja Trauss said something to the effect of NIMBYism is homeowners' reaction to their own mortality and I kinda feel like that explains more of Schumer's behavior toward Mamdani than donor pandering or the Brooklyn machine or whatever.

I feel like you could call this “Christian democracy” - not the white chauvinism that brands itself “Christian” but the meek, humble, help-your-neighbor kind I think a lot of liberals are familiar with.
