Yep, that's a source of my anxiety. Hoping McPherson bulks up on her French, fast.

The stats say otherwise. Yes, it's rich vs. poor, and boomers are disproportionately wealthy relative to millennials and gen-z. Down payments on a house used to take five years on average; now it's 14 years.

Put it this way: do you think OAS should be reformed?
November 24, 2025 at 1:49 PM
Oh yeah, our policy approach to this issue is anachronistic and supported by total dinosaurs. There is a complete lack of civic maturity on the matter, especially on the right.
November 23, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Yeah, that's just not viable. We would not find work.

My point, ultimately, though, is that boomers shouldn't be getting what is basically welfare when their retirement earnings are north of $60k/year. I don't make that, and I don't get the equivalent of OAS, and nor should I.

Fair point.
November 23, 2025 at 6:19 PM
No no, we can't afford a house *period*, and moving into a dying town, where we cannot find work, is not a viable option. I do hope you acknowledge the massive discrepancy in housing access between your generation and mine. It's a gulf
November 23, 2025 at 6:19 PM
And that solves the problem how?
November 23, 2025 at 2:22 PM
The same.

The increase is coming as a result of an increasingly aging population - it's an increase in government expenditures, not an increase in individual sums received. There may be an inflationary increase. I'm unsure if it's indexed to inflation.

One more note:

Housing values went through the roof because we stopped building. The 55+ demo have had a vested interest in that being the case, which is why governments have pumped the brakes on building.

So we pay rent in perpetuity without any ownership, and less control over our unit (it can be sold our from under us if the landlord sells or moves a partner in).

November 23, 2025 at 9:58 AM
So? You've the option to sell that home if things get hard, and you can downsize or rent an excellent unit.

My generation disproportionately has nothing to fall back on. As it stands we cannot buy real estate (used to be 5 years of work to save for a down payment - over 14 now).

Are we talking Ontario? You're mostly correct if so, as it's now $600 for housing.

But yes, that's brutal, and we legislate people with disabilities into poverty.
November 23, 2025 at 9:54 AM
The fix: continue to deliver and subsidize rural Canadians, ending door-to-door delivery and substituting with community mailboxes. Continue door-to-door for elderly & disabled.

Otherwise? Privatize it. Urban & sub-urban Canadians hardly need it, and should bear the cost privately if they do.

Adam Zivo, with Dr. Regenstreif (a known conservative activist) will be delivering their abstinence-above-all-else, pro-criminalization seminar this week, representing but a part of the continuum required, & recklessly advocating for continued punishment.
