This is why I distrust the “screen free parents” groups. Not because I don’t think social media and phones can be issues. I do. But because they are weirdly well funded and refuse to discuss social issues, digital rights and how schools catalyse harm. Brianna was killed by another child not a phone
Esther Ghey: "It was just that constant pressure of social media and wanting to get those likes. One of the hardest things was learning about what Brianna was accessing online that was encouraging her to self-harm and develop an eating disorder.”

Did 'the pressure of social media' stab Brianna Ghey
Most of us have pathologically useless parents who don't care to learn about protecting us properly, but this dogshit really takes the cake.

It's not a coincidence that our bus patronage numbers are hitting all time highs. This term we've delivered more bus lanes than the seven previous councils combined

The media sells us the lie that the Greens are dangerous radicals (the only party that provides fully costed evidence-driven shadow budgets) and Act are normal (repeated jokes in speeches about killing people, boasts about dangerous driving).
These two headlines side by side make me ill.

Imagine it had been a Green MP in the car. If you think the top headline would be anything other than “Green MP filmed speeding” I have a shiny bridge to sell you.

"You can't strike, you're too important" from a judge or government should instantly make you side with the people striking. They're *that* important but they get treated like shit? Nah. Naaaah. Let the government force better conditions.

The framing of this story is terrible, because it tries to make the story about teens, when the actual story is that only the elderly answer cold calls while *everyone else* assumes (often correctly) that they're scam calls. "Old people use cellphones irresponsibly" doesn't appeal to RNZ's audience.

As nurses protested this week, I spoke to Naomi Waipouri about why she was striking. She said patients are being let down due to understaffing - and she saw that last week, when her cousin died.

'It's personal': Tearful nurse at protest just lost a relative
Naomi Waipouri tells Stuff a cousin had a heart attack and it took 5 hours for healthcare services to respond. "So I'm standing here not only as a nurse, but as a support person for my whānau."
