listen

we can all agree it's a misleading name

but for none of the "ooh we're so traditionalist" "oooh we're the only ones correctly interpreting ancient doctrine" Catholics in this administration to know that the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is about MARY being born without sin is banoonies
ok it’s legitimately funny that they can’t even throw red meat to Catholics without falling into heresy

This is your casual reminder that executive orders are not laws.

EOs are directives meant to manage the operations of the federal government. Not state governments.

The states that even deign to acknowledge this are the ones who actively WANT to. No one's forcing them.
BREAKING: Trump says he will sign an executive order this week that will limit states’ ability to regulate AI.

I get what this post is saying, but it's also smart to moderate your news intake when a lot of "news" is "court intrigue" bullshit about the president playing "favorites" with ghoulish appointees.

Be boring! Pay attention to non-headline issues, ie. housing, unions, renewable energy. 💪❤️
It’s all so exhausting but stay engaged even when the news feels like a migraine wearing a trench coat. Authoritarianism counts on exhaustion. Democracy depends on very boring persistence.

To recap:
•Rittenhouse killed 2 people at a BLM rally & raised $2M
•Shiloh Hendrix called a Black child the n-word & raised $800K
•Now Crystal Wilsey called a Black customer the n-word & has already raised $100K in 1 day

On thing remains clear—White supremacy remains extremely profitable in America

My daughter finally got the chance to Yell At The Author today!

She’s near the end of AMONG THE FALLEN, and apparently the scene with Psander and Olimande the elf (IYKYK) was creepy enough that it stuck with her all day.

I mean, that's exactly who I would think you were talking about NOW, because it's 2025 and we live in the bad place.
If I told you hey there's a guy at the airport raving about the Nourishment of a Mother's Breast, who would you think it is. Wrong it's the U.S. secretary of health and human services
RFK Jr: "All of the ingenuity of corporate America has not produced an infant formula that is superior in nutrition and all the qualities that we want to the infant formula that God made, which is the infant formula in a mother's breast."

This kind of bait and switch evangelism is a time honored and disgusting tradition.
I ordered a copy of Jonathan Sarna’s “American Judaism” several months ago and the seller shipped me two entries from this genre instead. 🙄

I suppose if I had to offer constructive criticism it would be “this vaguely non-secular Jewish guy would find G Wolfe and PK Dick”more compelling evangelists.

I only occasionally interpret immigration matters, but I can definitively state that whatever you think immigration law looks like, it’s at least 8000 times more complicated and arbitrary than whatever you’re imagining
The average natural born US citizen, even one who is well-educated, has ZERO understanding of the history of immigration and citizenship law or the way that immigration and citizenship law is enforced today.
Having finished a book tracing US migration & citizenship from the colonial period to 1888, the lesson people are missing today from history is: 1) Without legal citizenship, all kinds of discrimination can be done to you & w/ no due process/equal protection. This is the very reason why the 14th 1/

One thing about the current SCOTUS that they try to retain the intellectual patina for their decisions when in reality they're just the most basal, partisan, power politics decisions imaginable. There is no intellectual foundation there, just post hoc rationalizing--an intellectual dead end.
