After years of searching for one in decent condition at a “reasonable price,” I finally have a Game Boy Light.

Yes, modern displays are better in every way, but I’m glad to finally have this electroluminescent goodness in my collection.

The new crossmember is now welded to the floor, taillight panel, and the ends of the frame rails. Next up will be to close up the access holes that I cut in the taillight panel so we could slide the floor over the replacement rails. There’s still plenty to do, but today was a good day.

It turns out that the replacement crossmember’s flange where the valance screws in is slightly longer than the original. Once I figured that out, it made getting things lined up way easier. A few hours of convincing and panel prep and now things are clamped in place and ready to be welded to the car

The passenger side trunk floor is attached and I did a test fit of the new rear crossmember from NPD. It’s a heavier gauge of metal than the stock one which is not a bad thing, but it’s going to take a bit of convincing to get it where it needs to be in the car.

This weekend we repaired the TIG welder foot pedal and got the passenger side trunk floor in place. It’s going to take a bunch of creative clamping, but after some initial plug welds it’s looking like things are coming together nicely.

The passenger side rear frame rail replacement section is welded in. We battled humidity and a broken TIG welder foot pedal, but it’s in. Now to let the paint inside the rail dry before we attach the trunk floor. It’s a slow go, but we’re getting there.

The weather is starting to warm up again so we got back in the garage to pick up where things left off in late November. It doesn’t look like much, but the passenger side rear frame rail has now been trimmed to fit the replacement rail, which needed slight tweaking like on the driver’s side.

I'm still holding out hope for someone to make a "Game Boy Advance in a DMG shell." There were prototypes out there from Lab Fifteen in 2018 with custom PCBs, but efforts seem to have been abandoned.

It's always great to see when people make something cool. It's beyond humbling when you realize you get to call those people friends. The George HraBand had a fantastic show at The Ice House on Saturday night. Putting on a performance like that is a TON of work and they made it look easy.

With all the ridiculous shit happening lately, seeing @lowcutconnie.bsky.social at @artsquest.bsky.social SteelStacks was exactly what I needed today.

Considering I’d rather not have someone ring the bell, maybe one of these instead?

I was going to do an IPS mod on that silver WSC until I found this one already done and with an aftermarket shell *and* a boxed game, for less than just an IPS kit. Seller said they didn’t like the battery life. Sure, compared to 40 hours on a stock screen, ~90 minutes is low. I use a rechargeable.

Mine are all as they came from eBay, so I never took them apart. I’m going to venture a guess that they should be white. Definitely not that um, beige, that yours are. My clear blue one has very white buttons. The “silver” one is slightly yellowed. The SwanCrystal is still fairly white.

I’m certainly nowhere near Kelsey’s level of WonderSwan-ness (life goals), but I have a few, so if you ever want me to check anything for you on a known working one, let me know.

I just tried it with one of my Colors and it won’t boot without a game, which I suspected. I put a game in, held Start, and pressed Power to get this menu.

They basically do nothing without a game in the slot. I wonder if the game is completing a circuit. I never dug that deep into the pinout.

Exactly this! Thankfully I broke out of that rut this past weekend and finally started Ys I&II on TurboGrafx CD. Played the entire first game and got part way through the second. Felt really good to just, well, play a game, and not scroll endlessly through a list.

@dragonshoardgaming.bsky.social in your latest Dreamcast repair video I noticed the two pads next to the ones you repaired were pretty bendy. Any concern about those traces breaking over time? If they work now they’ll probably be fine?

I am far from an audiophile snob, but today I learned that if you have YouTube Premium you can switch the audio quality setting in YouTube Music to “High.” The difference between Normal and High is noticeable.

Do yourself a favor and adjust your settings.

Super Adventure Island II is a game that doesn’t get talked about enough. I didn’t even know it existed when it was current, but I’m glad I finally gave it the time it deserves.

If you’re looking for a “Metroidvania” game from before that was even a genre, definitely check it out.
