Retro & Indie video games, dragons, plants, SPACE, greyhounds, and more. Probably a few grumbles about the state of the industry and whatever Aus politics is up to.

I do like this game, but may have to restart and do some save-scumming until I master it better. Or I need to learn to take a break, as getting tired means more losses and I make riskier behaviour.

Money management also needed me to be a lot better.

It's fun. I'll get to X-COM 2 in the 2030s.

Backlog Day: XCOM: Enemy Within

I only ever played X-Com/UFO and Chimera Squad. I was doing quite well, until I tried to help out the French and 3 of my team got wiped and Vahlen kept telling me not to blow stuff up.

Why can't I blow Vahlen up? Or feed her to a Chryssalid for study?

So... Yeah, really treat this as a beta.

• Combat 'starts' in paused mode. Un-pausing kicks it into turn-based mode.
• I never got the initiative, even if I got in a sneak attack first.
• If one of your characters is outside line-of-sight of mobs, their position in the order can be skipped.

Yeah, I absolutely forget where I was with The White March.

Time to restart.

Just Finished Playing: Neighbours Back From Hell

Technically 100%'d but Galaxy does not display things nicely. Turns out it is a compilation of the first two games, but there /is/ still a sequel. I'll give it some time(years).

Fun enough though!
November 2, 2025 at 7:04 AM
And game completed!

That was a fun distraction for the weekend. Now to wait 16 years before I play the sequel, just like I did for this "back" edition.

And 'season 3' is the racist stereotype levels. Hooray!

It eventually introduces two foes, the neighbour and his mother. Meaning timing events is finally a little harder, and not just by obscuring objects at the side of the screen.
November 2, 2025 at 12:22 AM
And 'season 2' set of levels done.

Some are annoying. The one with the birdseed... Yeah, I saw the perch, I knew what was intended, but I was not picking up that you could pick up from there for the top floor.
November 1, 2025 at 5:27 AM
First set of levels completed. That's enough for the day. Set 2 includes the third floor room.

It's... Fine. I ripped on it more in 2009, but it's a decent little puzzler, with some tight timing if you don't want it to takes several ages while you wait for the guy to go to the next area.

Backlog Day: Neighbours Back From Hell

Yeah, naff but fun. Be a smug prick and annoy your arsehole of a neighbour.
October 31, 2025 at 8:00 AM
Back in 2009. TWO THOUSAND AND NINE. I played a game called "Neighbours From Hell". It was fun, but a bit naff and repetitive.

Enough time has passed to play the next one. Neighbours Back From Hell.

And I think I've had it for as long as the first one... Doomed.

Oooh, new Siralim Ultimate patch.

I really need to get all the monsters I've not caught yet. And as the weather heats up, it is the perfect time to chill out to some podcasts and grind away at this one.

Doing nothing...
October 27, 2025 at 11:09 AM
Added some more stars and sped things up a little. Now to let it run overnight or something. Why not, 0.1x increments add up.

Actually I'm so spread over the map with old builds that the game is starting to chug a bit :D
October 27, 2025 at 9:45 AM
Ahhh, Easy Shape.
Here's 3 pics to simulate motion as I can't be bothered to open OBS to to make a vid.
October 27, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Shapez 1, built a not-that-efficient maker for the first of the final tier items.
There's no grey stars anywhere near the hub that I can find, so I'm having to cut and merge them from other shapes. But it will finally speed up stockpiles of it.

FTL, day 2.
Got really lucky early on, but didn't get enough gear, troops, and shields to face the flagship boss. :C

Cindy the Greyhound is lying on the spare bed in the computer room giving me the Sadako eye as she watches me eat KFC.

Backlog Day: FTL

This is rather brutal with the RNG. First run, got to sector 4, second run, destroyed in the first after a few jumps.

I like it, but certainly something to play in small chunks, rather long sessions.
October 26, 2025 at 8:07 AM
The whole thing takes about an hour to get through, and there's no choices to make. It's totally linear.
The story itself is a critique on traditions, meaning, wealth, and family. Overall enjoyable.

WHY DO THEY CALL THEMSELVES HUMAN?!?

Yes I played a Christmas game at Halloween time :P

Backlog Day & Just Finished Playing: BROK the InvestiGator - Natal Tail, A New Christmas

It's a dystopian VN, not just because it is set at Chirstmas (Natal Tail), but because the utter state of the setting being an oppressive shithole.

Part of a larger setting, games I've not yet played.

You've obtained the "Ham."

Backlog Day: Terroir.

I made some 5-Star wine, then quickly went bankrupt.

I like the idea on what this game is trying to do, but onboarding/tutorials are poor. Experiment it says, fine. Figure it out is says, not fine.
Pruning is... Does it even work as instructed?!?
