I should say that “stolen” is an exaggeration—I lost it and eventually had to pay. Now it finds me every few years. Fair bargain.

Please don't judge my teenage self too harshly. I do enough of that on my own.

I stole this book from a library as a teenager. It’s outlasted most things since.

Perception without intent is noise. Intent without perception is just shouting into the void. They falter without each other. Both have to be weighed alongside impact—whether that impact is real or imagined. Even silence carries meaning between them in interpersonal relationships. My humble take.

The multiple cacti always make me think of Henry Darger.

Looks like he found an audio book. Reddit is undefeated.

Normally, I only go there for proof that no thought is ever truly original—just a subreddit with 47,000 people who got there first.

Into ICE raids and family separations. Into the erasure of trans bodies and the weaponizing of poverty. Into eviction notices, poisoned water, and the slow violence of abandonment. But the rope endures. The hand endures. And the tree still waits.

It has mutated too—into knees on necks, into medical neglect, into the quiet violence of cages and courts—but the old ritual remains alongside the new.

Exactly so. There’s a nakedness to it—frightening, but also inviting. The exchange is often as much self-revelation as it is discovery of the other person. A microcosm of life.

Thanks for the breadcrumb. I’m even more eager to dive further into the letters now. I love little mysteries like this.

Normal is an overrated state of being—more phantom baseline than fact. Stay weird, friend. Stay punk.

I think obsession is what breeds art and artists. It's fuel. That's what that book is. Probably why there are so many songs like Joy Division's Colony that reference him.

Gonna watch this to celebrate his memory.

I think part of the joy of correspondence in letters is the unexpected way they arrive. They breed ideas and their own ghosts—each its own reward. The return isn’t only in reply, but in the act of writing itself. They leave the mind to wonder—and wander. 👻👻

Been reading since I woke up—Kafka’s worth that and more. When I was younger, The Metamorphosis was one of the first books that made me want to write anything at all. Now he makes me want to write letters. To exchange them.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite that way about a writer—maybe my beloved Dr. Gonzo or Vonnegut come close. Kafka’s letters leave me wondering about her replies. There’s something so intimate about reading a two-way correspondence. Watching a dialogue unfold instead of only hearing one side.
