RAT, general nuisance, interested in (mostly) Scottish railways. Big fan of episode three of the Doctor Who serial 'Robot'. I make silly talking train stories on YouTube. He/him. YouTube: https://t.co/y6AM85kRL0 Ko-fi: http://ko-fi.com/auldlangsyne

It's time to import a thread from 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦.

So. I make a thing called 'Auld Lang Syne' - a series about talking trains made with model trains.

It's silly, a bit odd, quite janky, full of dad jokes and surprisingly endorsed by people who usually have impeccable taste 🤷‍♂️

unsurprising but still heart attack inducing

A little bit ago I put the near final touches on another module of my industrial layout, my Steelworks, Eden's Gate.

So happy with it, still needs figures and signs, and since this point I decided to block in the area behind the rear gate.

Been faffing about with the Haymarket set (that's basically all I can do at the moment in regards to the next episode. Realised after that the skyline is far too cluttered but hey ho, at least the tenements look more tenement-y!
A model of Haymarket station c. 50s/60s with grubby buildings in the background. There is definitely not an NSWGR C36 in 1926 Royal train blue livery sat in the platform. You are imagining that.

ah yes i remember when auld lang syne had DEEP LORE
A model of an NBR R/LNER D51 in plain black sat in a model of a locomotive shed. She is smiling. Oh yeah she has a face. That is how she is smiling.

Her name is Sunny, short for Sunnyside - the locomotive's original name during the Drummond Years (presented by Jon Pertwee). Sunny was due to appear in the original series at one point and was a Very Important Plot Point. She was Holmes' mentor and Maude's friend and she went missing (cutting short the already and STILL shamefully small female engine cast of this stupid series - I'm working on it, okay?). Anyway yeah there is an idea from that storyline that I like the concept of and want to use at some point but we'll see how far we get, eh? Two (models) of NBR C/LNER J36s in the (model) snow-filled (model) yard. One is smiling and sat in a small (model) engine shed ( this engine is called Albert) and the other (called Maude), to her right, is sat beside it. Albert has a slight smile on her face and Maude has a slight frown on his.

Yes, that's right! Albert is a she and Maude is a he! Gender is a social construct. But, also, the intended implication of the original short story was that the NBR did not care who got what name when the engines returned from The War™.

The Lore Reason for Maude's name has actually changed since but I don't think I'll ever go into that because I'd rather write a billion more stories with Geordie Ken then write one about The War™ and other serious things. I'm not good enough to write that stuff, sorry!

While this may be the last Extravaganza for a while, it is by no means the end of our connection with that mythical island off the north west coast of England - for those links are stronger than ever!

Dear Friends,

This past weekend has been something rather special indeed. From all of us at the Talyllyn Railway we cannot thank you enough for coming to the Awdry Extravaganza 2025 - so many have travelled so very far to visit our little railway and we are so very grateful.
