Time for an intro skeet!

🐳 Hi, I'm Olivier! I'm in the DevRel team for GKE at Google!
🇨🇦 Canadian, speaks 2½ languages (incl. geese hiss)
🚶 Advocate of transit, sustainability, and inclusiveness
🎶 Listens to rock and metal of all kinds (esp. prog)
🎮 Enjoys the Final Fantasy series a bit too much
So I've noticed my local Loblaws grocery store has a uniformed and armed Toronto Police Service officer posted inside every day, all day long.

And it makes me wonder... Are they paid by Loblaws? Or funded by tax payers? Either of these scenarios are awful for different reasons. 1/2

Over the past years, I've been asked variations of the same question: "how do you get into Google, really?" 🧑‍💻

What I've found over time is that the typical answers ("just grind more LeetCode") aren't particularly useful. 🤔

So I've built a talk about it, and will debut it at #DevFest Seattle! 🚢

Anyone else in DevRel suddenly receiving a surge of recruiter mail for advocacy roles?

It's as if all of the AI startups are realizing at the same time that developer experience is, in fact, very important. 😄

Took my first Waymo last night, and I gotta say, the experience felt* significantly smoother and safer than I expected. It beats a good chunk of Uber drivers I've had over the years, distracted by their phones or not fully paying attention to the road.

*Would love to see tangible safety data

I got a lovely watercolour of the IX cast painted by @madqueenmomo.bsky.social and I absolutely cannot wait to hang it on my wall! 🥰

Over the weekend I had the lovely opportunity to meet the voice of Yuna (@hedyburress.bsky.social), who happily (understatement!) spent time chatting with me and singing my personal copy!

Hedy radiates joy like no one else— Hope to see you again soon!

My 30th year on Earth was special for many reasons. So much so, that I decided to write about it! ✍️

Make my 31st birthday (today) off to a great start by reading it! 🥰

Bring me back to when my biggest worry was remembering to defrag my system disk, a simpler world without smart phones and AI agents 😔

Last month, we announced extending GKE Autopilot to all qualifying GKE clusters (not just dedicated Autopilot ones!) bringing the fully managed environment to all!

To celebrate, the GKE leadership team is hosting an AMA on Reddit. Have you ever wanted to ask the team a question? Now is your chance!

I'm sure no one is interested to hear, but I've secured a ticket for the RUSH (my #1 musical artist) reunion tour and I'm on cloud nine right now 🥹

I am once again asking for a rail connection between the LGA airport and the NYC rail transit network.

The Q70 buses are overcrowded, and get stuck in traffic. 😔

Why are Bachelor's and Master's distinguished by their discipline (e.g. B.Sc. and B.A., and M.Sc. and M.A.) but then as soon as you get to the Doctorate level suddenly it's like everyone studied philosophy (Ph.D.)? Why doesn't a biology graduate level defence award a Sc.D. instead, for example?

I find it mind-boggling that we, as humanity, haven't left low Earth orbit in over 50 years*. What is it that made walking on the moon in the 1960s achievable on less computational power than a smartwatch, that we can't reproduce today, from any nation?

Some of the busiest people I know are very prompt to reply to messages and to make room in their calendar for me, while some of the least busy people I know take days and multiple follow-ups to try to schedule a single coffee chat.

I find it interesting and counter-intuitive! Has this been studied?

Does the sheer quantity of street car stops showing up on Google Maps look silly to anyone else or am I overthinking it 😅

Another week, another successful workshop! 🥳

The developer community in Atlanta is electrifying, haven't seen a crowd like that in a while! Hoping to be back soon!

By far my favourite part of my job is seeing all the excitement and energy of workshop attendees as they learn how technologies can help improve their work & personal endeavours! The sparkle as they figure out how it all connects together is priceless! ☺️

"if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it"
I don’t understand how it’s legal to start construction using tax payer dollars while the budget remains a secret??

Like we’ve already normalized not having timelines on projects, we can’t normalize budget secrecy!!
Work begins on Highway 413 but timelines and budget remain secret
Premier Doug Ford says Ontario has awarded the first two contracts for Highway 413 — but long-awaited details remain under wraps.

I miss when apps focused on being just one thing but doing it very well.

I really don't need a music app to break into yet another social media app.
