This really only applies when switching mediums. The majority of your audience will only engage with the primary story and medium. If you don’t give them the info where they can see it then it doesn’t exist to those people. That’s how it works. That’s how it’s always worked.

If I write a big movie and then later release a comic book saying the villain is the main characters bio father, that’s not in the movie and it’s not canon to the movie 🤷 bc that’s not how it works
