bonus: unexpected 24 hour layover in seoul
A two page spread from my sketchbook, all drawn in colored marker. The first page is dominated by a dark vignette of an intense red sunset viewed out a plane window. Below that is many small drawings of the Korean food we ate at the hotel, each labeled (omelette?? eggy + meat, fried kimchi pancakes? (my fave), weird rice candy things (this one I didn't like), bulgogi (beef), shrimp fried rice, canned peaches, cookie ([name redacted]'s fave), mango juice, fried chicken, dumplings). The second page has a large sketch of my partner walking up a snowy, forested slope, drawn in blue and pink. His back is to the viewer and he's stepping forward purposefully in the center of the image, framed by leafless trees. It's a frigid but bright and sunny day and the trees cast long shadows across his path.

i don't like taking photos, so i brought a sketchbook on our trip to the philippines! it's been nice to be able to do so much life drawing again ❤️

i drove through the yakima reservation this weekend and goddamn if it wasn't some of the most gorgeous scenery ive ever seen. this is from memory but i hope it captures the spirit of it

I was in my room, drawing and listening to Dr. Worm, when she called and invited me to go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Then she talked my ear off about the Galapagos. Apparently, their guide had a buzz cut with 2 dreadlocks at the back. She went to the galapagos with her grandma (but not [her brother] or her parents) and a bunch of other kids and their grandparents. I wish I could've gone with her! But I suppose she wouldn't have had as good of an experience, because she kept talking about how close she got to the other kids. Sometimes, being around [best friend] makes me wonder if I'm lesbian, or do I just love her as my dearest friend? We are absolutely comfortable with each other, but she has had a boyfriend, and she has a crush on [classmate]. I had a crush on [other guy], but I'm not sure anymore, and I've never had a boyfriend, let alone kissed anyone. Unless you count family members or horses and cats. But enough of that. our next potato is Portly Fingerling! it was developed by Cultivariable as part of a red flesh fingerling breeding project (the other varieties are also named after wine). it was derived from a cross between Loowit and Shetland Beet several (potato) generations ago.

our next potato is Ayock, a variety developed by Cultivariable. it has thin skin, a little bit of purple on the otherwise white flesh, a texture that's good for roasting or baking, and it's not so large that it's hard to work with.

our first potato is Llumchuy Waqachi, also known as the potato that makes the daughter-in-law cry! presumably because it's very lumpy with deep eyes that make it difficult to peel. it has white flesh, medium thick skin, and a strong but not bitter flavor.
