Days: fundraising to fix the buildings part of climate crisis. Extra time goes to books, bikes, #RCTID, #BAONPDX, #COYS.
For me it’s this, every December— the most subversive Christmas film! Class warfare! Housing crisis! Veterans issues! Adorable dog!

Not sure who owns it now, but there are active train tracks that go that far and beyond…

The most stressful notifications I get on my phone are Libby saying “your books are about to expire and YOU NEED TO GET READING, YOU LAZY SLACKER.”

Jesus, Boomers. You already hold more wealth than any generation and now you want to be tax exempt too? Low income
seniors, yes, sure, I’ll concede that. But if f you have a huge house, cars, IRAs and savings / pension? HARD NO.
A better message would be to stop capping Social Security taxes.

Saving this for the next time someone says “run every nonprofit like a business!” Yeah, I’ll take $50 BILLION in VC money. Any day. TYVM.

Found the documentary “Los Angeles Plays Itself” on Kanopy — esoteric, film criticism heavy, but worth the almost three hours for the great glimpses into Los Angeles from 1920s to early 2000s.

Every perimenopausal woman scheduling one of these two months out: “YOU THINK THESE THINGS ARE IN ANY WAY PREDICTABLE!?!” *passes out from laughing too hard*

And because it’s also Veterans Day, here’s her nephew, my grandfather, serving as a Navy doctor in The Philippines:

On this Armistice Day, I think of the hundreds (maybe thousands) of British regiments’ soldiers my great-great-aunt Mame treated as a nurse in France, and the badges and buttons they left with her.

TriMet's research indicated that most car trips on 82nd are already about one mile or less -- his assertion that the street is used primarily to traverse the full corridor and travel long distances isn't supported by the research.

I had the same “what is that guy thinking?” moment this morning when a driver clearly thought about just left hooking me, and had no problem menacing me. I dare him to say to a cop “I didn’t see her” when I’m wearing this:

Grocery prices are about to be the least of our problems when these Republican healthcare marketplace policies go into effect any day now. This is why the shutdown has to result in the remedies Democrats are proposing.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/19/b... It’s so telling that the privileged few lecture those with less to “just eat beans”, economize, “stop spending money you don’t have”, etc. But when it actually happens:

It’s no surprise I had the only bike at Kaiser Sunnyside today. It takes six buttons and seven minutes of waiting to cross the street and two freeway ramps to go from the hospital to the other side of I-205. And that’s on a bike, not walking.

Almost to the end of a (successful!) #weekwithoutdriving. Today’s tally: 30 miles biked, one latte, one haircut, one driver who tried to right hook me on N. Willamette was duly admonished.

I preordered mine a while back on Bookshop.org! Cars cost an average of $12,000 a year to operate and I want a better life for us all than being dependent on a car for daily transportation!

Was over at PCC Southeast tonight, and for a campus that suffers from big car parking problems, and is also served by multiple bus lines, I DON’T LOVE the fact that their “welcome to campus” messaging is all about driving a car. It also has good bike parking there — maybe not so car-centric?
