True. I find myself forgetting that in the simple comparison between prices.

This is extraordinary stuff! Thanks for finding it! The way they had to go about booking in advance is a lesson in patience itself. The difference is not as extreme as I thought in today's money, but as you point out the range above £51 is huge (and more people pay those higher prices, I imagine.)

Thanks, I was wondering about that after my comment! I might have a quick search to find out how many east coast mainline tickets I could've got back then, actually perhaps I won't. It will probably upset me!

Good grief, I can remember this! I never noticed how jarring the sign is to be honest. £25 or death seem to be the options.

Would it be possible for you to draw up a list of rules for true crime like the old Ronald Knox one?! You could limit it to not stringing you along with husbands, dodgy friends, cranky neighbours...I'm not sure who'd you'd be able to pass it on to, there are so many of them. Podcasts, not randos.

At best it is a backhanded compliment (i.e. they think you've got money), at worst it is harassment...well, at worst it is harassment and a scam. Let's be clear, it's the latter!

Hope the message works and you get a bit of peace.

I am ashamed to admit it, but I came to this knowledge worryingly late. It's worth knowing how much time writers can practically devote to their work before, as some readers do, telling working authors how to write.

I only became aware of that latter habit in readers relatively recently too.

OK, I'm sure you're very busy but...you really need to finish it!

I'd never heard of this. so I've just watched the videos on the Wikipedia page. Creepy as hell. Is that the tone of your manuscript?

A year ago, I bought a 'Cursive Writing for Adults' book and a nice fountain pen. My handwriting is lovely, but it takes about 30 minutes to write a postcard. A novel would take, well, a lifetime. I should also add that my cursive handwriting is alarmingly large, so I would need lots of paper.

Are you absolutely sure? Jessica Fletcher always looked like she was having a whale of a time typing away.

How could Jess be wrong?!

I agree. I remember watching it as a pre-teen and finding it very spooky. The image of the cyclist following her and disappearing was weird. The 'silly' bit where she turned her bike around and chased him was unnerving. Instinctively, I knew that she was surrounded by creepy blokes!

As an innately clumsy individual, that photo brought me out in a cold sweat!

May I suggest replacing Hannibal Lector for that kid from 'Home Alone'?

Matt Bernstein called an episode of his A Bit Fruity podcast 'What is the point of Bill Maher?' He pretty much nailed it with that title. It was a great episode.

By the way, well done for getting through 10 pods. I couldn't manage one.

That is awesome. I'm not going suggest the punch was worth it(!), but I want to say I'm impressed by your whole story arc together!
November 20, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Good grief! I can really understand the warning now!

I suppose the fact that he remembered you without prompting is a sign that he doesn't punch many people...or doesn't punch many at book signings.

Who can argue with that maths?
