Childless cat guy. I like board games and history. I love America her promise deeply. Optimist.

Have you ever met a young adult who was, for some reason, an American citizen but clearly had no cultural connection or loyalty to the United States because their mom hopped in a plane to have them here?

Me neither. Literally never.
Ezra Klein even like "well we can agree 'birth tourism' is a problem," and no, I cannot. My group texts are about sports and kids.

Birthright citizenship is like one of the only unequivocally modern elements of the American constitutional order and should be protected at, literally, all costs.

It really cannot be stressed enough that if we don’t have birthright citizenship we don’t have citizenship.

The only Americans who have any proof of citizenship are either naturalized adults or the tiny fraction of natural born citizens who are born abroad. Everyone else has birthright citizenship.

I have *zero* proof of citizenship because my parents has no proof because their parents have no proof and their parents have no proof… you have to go back to the early 1900s to find anyone in my family becoming naturalized.

Everyone after that got it by being born here: a birthright, if you will.

The RSF just attacked a kindergarten, killing at least 33 children in Sudan.

Meanwhile, the Trump Admin. continues to sell arms to the UAE, who are aiding these atrocities.

Imagine if Trump spent as much time trying to stop the killing, as he did getting the UAE to invest in his crypto coin.

there are of course many examples of political constituencies that have in fact killed scores of children (en route to some other evil goal), but I can't offhand think of any historical examples of a political constituency organized for that specific purpose
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

I've had the red hat wearing cult members asking me to provide one example of a law in the Constitution that Trump has tried to overturn. Birthright citizenship. The 14th amendment. He signed an executive order to overthrow something older than the magna Carta.

I’ve heard from so many parents who are worried about finding affordable child care for their kids.

That’s why we fought for $25 million in this budget to tackle our child care workforce shortage and get more qualified child care professionals in the classroom to take care of our kids.

We’re expanding our workforce, increasing access to child care, and giving our parents the peace of mind that they need so they can go to work and provide for their families.

Being able to come from anywhere in the world and become American was one of those virtuous and exceptional ideas so the administration taking a sledgehammer to it very much makes me feel like a stranger in a strange land especially having gone to several citizen ceremonies

I can't stop thinking about the purported drug smugglers being murdered by the US military. The punishment for drug offenses isn't the death penalty. This is just bloodlust and men in suits playing with lives they don't care about. It's truly grotesque and gravely compromises this country.

Yup. The only way to understand them is they've been pickled in Fox News.
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.

I'm not a fan of Biden, but this framing is crazy.

The biggest "crime" of Biden family was a son who took drugs, had a lot of sex and tried to create some enrichment scheme.

Donald Trump is rapist pedophile racketeer who - with help from his family - OPENLY DEMANDS AND TAKES bribes from everyone.
Donald Trump had reasonable concerns about how Joe Biden’s relatives enriched themselves through his service. Yet his own family is making the “Biden crime family” look small-time
How Donald Trump is turning into Joe Biden
It’s about more than denying inflation
