Got that book on CJ and Dr Fitz for my birthday. It's a tremendous story ofc but I was struck how the author referred to his wife. I hope he too is a top of the range bird because this is the sort of description that gets you chucked out a window.

Eight Democrats break ranks in exchange for basically nothing, save for an assurance of a vote they'll lose because Republicans will vote in lockstep on it. This is just how US politics work and the Dems are apparently powerless to stop it. Useless priests can't say mass.

This shouldn't need to be said obviously but given the fact the Taoiseach and Tánaiste are playing the same tune as people going "ya see?!" anytime a non Irish person does something troubling, it's worth noting that in fact Irish people can do appalling things too.

OK final comment on #aras25: maybe we should have a national conversation on why certain people think their first tilt at political office or even public service should be running for President, and why they think they have an intrinsic right to have the way cleared for them.

I feel sorry for Heather Humphreys. She's clearly a nice decent woman (and in the context of the noxious swill we've heard today this is a classy statement) but it's quite clear FG ran a campaign that didn't factor in who their candidate (or opponent) was. Small wonder she looked dislocated. #aras25
