The numbers paint a terrible picture in Haiti. A record 5.7 million people — 51% of the total population — are currently experiencing acute levels of hunger, with children increasingly at risk for malnutrition, the World Food Program recently warned. Meanwhile, as many as 1 in 4 Haitians, 2.7 million people, are forced to live in gang-controlled neighborhoods, more than 1.4 million are internally displaced, according to the United Nations. Rape, kidnapping and gang-related killings, all over 4,000 this year, are daily realities of life.

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of long-term disability. During 2006–2010, stroke prevalence decreased by 3.7%. What is added by this report? From 2011–2013 to 2020–2022, U.S. stroke prevalence increased by 7.8%. Increases occurred among adults aged 18–64 years; females and males; non-Hispanic Black or African American (Black), non-Hispanic White, and Hispanic or Latino (Hispanic) adults; and adults with less than a college degree. Stroke prevalence was higher among adults aged ≥65 years; non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native, non-Hispanic Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and Black adults; and adults with lower education. Stroke prevalence decreased in the District of Columbia and increased in 10 states. What are the implications for public health practice? Google just showed me this photo memory as "a trip to Texas", and I had a visceral reaction.

This is where I stayed up late watching Hillary Clinton lose the 2016 Presidential election.

I was in Austin for a conference, and wished I was home. The conf went from party vibe to silence the next day.

It also invests $12 billion in electric vehicle incentives, $14 billion in home energy efficiency upgrades, $22 billion in home energy supply improvements, and $37 billion in advanced manufacturing. (The latter amount includes $5.46 billion for a DOE program for zero-emissions industrial tech demonstrations, $10 billion for the renewed 48C tax credit,and more than $5 billion to the USDOT and GSA to lower embedded emissions in procurement.) $19.5 billion goes to investments in climate-smart agriculture, more than $5 billion goes to revising remediation programs for those affected by discriminatory USDA lending practices, $5 billion goes to forest protection and urban heat island reductions, and nearly $3 billion goes to coastal habitat protection. Lastly, the Act gives $1.005 billion to various agencies to increase staffing levels and kickstart permitting reform, particularly of environmental reviews.

Christopher Todd Gilbert (born October 19, 1970) is an American politician and attorney, who is the Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for Page County and served as 57th Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2022 to 2024. He served as a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2025, representing the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains region, and served in the House's Republican leadership, including as majority and minority leader.[1] He also served as interim United States attorney for the Western District of Virginia for 38 days in summer 2025.

I switched this tank up a bit
16 gallon planted aquarium, with natural brown substrate, a stacked slate "waterfall" to the left, a manzanita "tree" to the right (this is the main thing I moved), and a variety of aquatic plants. Some of the hardscape and plants emerge from above the surface, and an LED light illuminates it all.
