Goodbye Rome! I've had a blast. I'll especially miss the seagulls who joined me for breakfast on the balcony every morning.

Today I was invited to an audience with the Pope. I was so overwhelmed when I saw him I literally cried. I didn't get a pic of me shaking his hand, but here's a pic of him doing an initial pass on his Pope Mobile.

Good news, everybody. Im working in vienna again so that means I can grab some elite-tier coffees! Today I'm having a thermal shock processed Colombian coffee, roasted by The Coffee Source. Unglaublich!

Back in Salzburg, cuddling with Fellini, and listening to the most outrageous Herbie Hancock album (it's fantastic). Win.

Salzburg views continue to be cartoonishly idyllic

Lizard took me to Schwangau for my birthday and I visited two (2!) castles. Here's a pic of the iconic Neuschwanstein

Went on an 80km cycle to Mondsee today and this was the view... Austria is genuinely incredible.

So students do a blurb task for me each week. The blurb will normally contain a quick overview of the argument contained in the paper we're covering (in this case, a paper on UBI by White) and a quick evaluation of the argument. This week, a student sent me this drawing as their blurb. Perfect.

Getting the night train back to Vienna from Rome and there's a dog nearby! What a winner of a weekend.

I've been glued to a constant live stream of the Vatican chimney and it turns out this paid off comparatively quickly. Here's me noticing the smoke turn white. Very excited to see what Pope Leo XIV will do!

Turns out Fellini is totally into chimney watch.

Went on a cycle just shy of 40km. The cycle roads in Salzburg are amazingly safe and can take you pretty much everywhere without having to cross a road. Also, within a few minutes of leaving my apartment, the views look like this...

My knee is finally healed but I'll not be able to run anymore... I obviously still enjoy exercising outside so I thought I'd buy a really cool roadbike. The first thing I did when I got outside the shop was fall off and wreck my ankle. Great.

Siri, generate the most heavy-handed metaphor for late-stage capitalism possible. Leave no forest unburned in the process - I want this metaphor to be really unashamed... oh wait... nevermind. (Link to the article here: www.theverge.com/2025/1/1/243...)
