Photos sometimes show a good representation of what’s in front of the camera and sometimes not. The sun on these acers resulted in the most vibrant red leaves - real show stoppers - doesn’t look like that here but it really was stunning!

Could this be the inkling of a chance that the UK govt are starting to realise that the academic way of working doesn’t suit all children? People learn in different ways and not performing well in 2-3 hour slots in exam conditions is not an indication of intelligence. @heritage-crafts.bsky.social

Hurray for Susan Hamlyn in the Times today. I used to judge the National Schools Handwriting Competition and would often quote research to journalists about the benefits of handwriting. Now many children are not taught the basics of letter formation and joining letters.

Tristram Hunt, Director of the V&A IN @thetimes.com today. It’s not quite true that ‘we can’t paint, knit or crochet or make anything with a lathe’ but we do need more children and people to do it to improve concentration and fine motor skills. @heritagecrafts.bsky.social @dcmsgovuk.bsky.social

I’ll write your name a bit flashily in my new book ‘The Art of the Scribe’ published British Library. P+p for UK not to bad, a bit more for EU, but sadly awful for others. If, though, a flash name is what you like (and why not!), then contact me through my website

Tony & Catherine at the last APPGCraft explained how the word ‘neon’ is being used for cheap LED lighting - nothing to do with the huge skills required to produce neon. They are hoping the govt will support clarification such that the traditional skills are maintained. @heritage-crafts.bsky.social

On an early morning walk I was stopped in my tracks by this brilliantly purple group of crocuses surrounded by bare earth and brown leaves, and then further on white crocuses with yellow middles looking like fried eggs! If you’re having a bad day - let these cheer your spirits.
