This is going to be a thread reviewing Carlsbad Brewing's "Strawberry Blonde Ale" and the Wren Outdoor Growler. If there is one beer you get at Carlsbad Brewing, I can not speak too highly of their "Strawberry Blonde Ale." I try to find unique beers at every watering hole I visit, and this beer 1

This is Beachwood Brewing's #imperialporter. It opens with overpowering coffee notes and a crushing stout-like body (9% ABV). It has a chewy, chocolate finish. I recommend it for everyone who likes Porters.

This is Carlsbad Brewing's Munich-style lager. It opens with a crisp tart note that dissolves into a medium, lager-y body. What makes this brew special is the lingering citrus finish. At 5% ABV, it's not a palate-crusher.

This is Stone Brewing's #hazyipa. It opens with lovely light citrus notes that get smothered in a full, boozy (6.7% ABV) body with pine and floral notes, then a chewy, malty finish.

This is a #festbier from Sierra Nevada Brewing and Stortebeker. It opens with mild, malty, bread notes and has a soft, coppery body that finishes almost immediately with a crisp sour note. I recommend it for hot, sunny October days.

This is Harland Brewing's #japaneselager. I'm not a fan of #lager, but after a morning marching in blazing heat, this brew is perfect. It opens with slightly tart citrus notes that are immediately replaced by a soft, malty body with rice and floral notes, and a swift, crisp finish. It's 5% ABV.

This is Societe Brewing's pumpkin ale. It opens with a slight sour ale note, with slight lime that immediately opens into a lovely malty body with sweet caramel notes and subtle #pumpkinspice that mellows into a nice chewy, spicy sweet finish. At $22 for a growler fill, it's a bargain.

This is Stone Brewing's "Imperial Zombie Love Potion" American Strong Ale. It opens with a hefty, malty, coffee notes that quickly fade into a crushing chocolate and citrus notes with a chewy finish. I'd recommend it, but, at 9% ABV, be careful.

Dolly Reviews: "Alpha." This film had almost enough wolf. I tried to leap into the screen 3 times before The Boring Parent threatened me with #the leash. 5/4 paws, but NEEDS MORE WOLF.

Day 4 with the #mokapot. For everyone getting started, a Moka is a little more complex than the elegantly simple design might have one think, and I'm still figuring it out, daily. Today, I learned that you DO want to fill the water pot part right up to the safety release port/doodad, (p1)

The current #coffee set-up. I have a 6-shot #mokapot I use for espresso, and an Aeropress I use for drip coffee. When my fatigue (I'm a #cancer survivor) is acting up, I can make a Red Eye that will power me through those dreary mornings. @6cats4adomino.bsky.social to the front desk!

This is me at the #nokings protest. I went with an obscure John Carpenter anti-capitalist* message.

*My specific complaint is that it's fucking exhausting to march and riot every 4 years, when simply putting caps on income would end this boom and bust cultural cycle. Curtis Yarvin can blow me.

@jamellebouie.net @bluestormcomin1.bsky.social @bekindforthefuture.bsky.social Today, let's take a break from the #resistance, and focus on Y'all Qaeda's recent recruitment areas, #healthandwellness. Today's DoomThread is, "Do any of these weak-ass 'role models' lift, Bro?"
May 14, 2025 at 6:31 PM
Instead of my usual Doomthread, for @jamellebouie.net and @dpfrazier22.bsky.social I thought I would discuss my qualifications to become an alternative alternative Health and Wellness Influencer.

This is Carlsbad Brewing's "Strawberry Blonde Ale," it's a blonde ale brewed with strawberries and it is superb. It opens with tart, citrus notes that are immediately smothered in a full, wheat-y witbier body and malty notes. The finish is crisp. I recommend it in the blazing heat.

This is Arrogant Bastard Ale, and #Americanstrongale. I would describe it as an imperial red ale, but your mileage may vary. It opens with sharp coppery notes and a crushing, hop-forward body I associate with IPAs. There are slight toast and caramel notes in the chewy finish.

I spent a lovely day at a Sake festival. Sake is, technically, rice beer, NOT wine. I like it, but the industry could use some more #beersnob like me, because only one sales rep mentioned mouth feel; maybe two discussed the finish, and nobody talked about the amazing, subtle fruity and citrus notes.

This is Stone Brewing's "Delicious" #ipa. It opens with lovely floral notes that develop into a delightful hyper-citrus crushing body. The finish is malty and chewy. At 7.7% ABV, sip this beer.

Because my last #cansky post blew up; my cancer journey is, overall, not a net positive. I know some folx view it that way; not me. However, there are some things silver linings, like how my survival impacted my view of health and aging. In the West, aging is inevitably viewed as a sharp decline.

This is "Lady in Red," a #redale from Mike Hess Brewing. It opens with nice coppery and malty tones, and a smoother, malty, gentle body. The finish is a little chewy, but doesn't overstay the welcome. At 5% ABV, it's a pleasantly light beer in the heat. At $13 for a 6-pack, it's a steal.
