Creatively living through gardening, watercolor, fitness and good cooking. I love the great outdoors and traveling to the wide open spaces. Retired from museum profession and grateful for once having the coolest job I could ever imagine.
One more piece for upcoming show at a local coffee shop with another artist. This one was fun—watercolor, pen and paper collage.

An entry (still tweaking it) for a juried show themed “Chasing the Light”. Work in progress but nearly there. In danger of overworking now I imagine.

Continuing a series of watercolors that are statement pieces.

I have finished “Peace Comes from Within” and preparing to frame it for a show I’ll be in about a month. The steampunk and satellite elements represent the distractions of life that can rob us of peace.

Working on a watercolor regarding Inner Peace. Will be adding at least one quote from Siddartha Gautama. Right now, the bird represents intrusive thoughts.

I haven’t posted for ages it seems. Very busy with life so at least today, I am posting some earlier work just to remind myself to get back to this! Pen and ink with watercolor. Probably two years ago.

Continued al no the theme of rules for a local show. Maybe I’ll get in. Should know in a few days. This one is themed around William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.

A piece I worked on for a juried show entry. Theme is “Politically Incorrect Correct”—inviting expressions of thoughts on political views, left, right, middle… This could be interpreted by the viewer for wherever they stand.

I’m in progress on a watercolor of Yukon River Camp, on the Dalton Highway. It was just really cool to be there.

Second effort. I think I like I better than the first attempt. There are some good qualities to be found in both. This one has a consistent sky where it meets land, and scale is a bit better on the foreground rocky projections.

Kenai Fjords, Alaska, first attempt. I have a few things in mind to loosen it up and adjust some things. Used three colors—DS Ultramarine, DS Burnt Sienna and a recently acquired Sennelier Green Earth on 8x8 NYCentral watercolor cold pressed.

Watercolor on Arches, using Japanese Gansai watercolors. It is a waterlily variety, taken at the Japanese Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Shifting my style a bit and working towards more abstraction in landscapes. This is Hurricane Gulch in Alaska, from a train trestle about 1000 ft over the water.

Starting a new painting. You can see where it’s going. Hurricane Gulch in Alaska, view from high above it on train tracks. Spectacular misty day.

Went to a watercolor workshop with Marilynne Bradley yesterday and produced these from reference paintings she had done. She used only a small flat brush, works quickly and is fearless with color. I had fun.

Back to the Alaska landscape of Turnagain Arm sunset. Feeling like I’m close now. But I think I need some integration of the middle ground with what I just added. Suggestions or comments welcome.

Working on a landscape from Alaska, another view from a train heading to Anchorage from Seward along Turnagain Arm. Not quite finished but I’m liking it so far.

I was traveling by train in Alaska last August and was treated to so many amazing views. Here is one on the route going from Anchorage to Seward.
