The heroes rely on Oliver’s close relationship with Hal to distract Parallax enough to stop him. It’s good Green stuff. And it was fun how they did a Hard Traveling Heroes with Kyle and Connor.
Connor was Green Arrow from like issues #100 or so to about #140 I think. Written by the great Chuck Dixon, and rich, almost Sal Buscema-style art by Doug Braithwaite. I really liked Connor’s character. There’s a great Grant Morrison JLA story with Connor. A lot of good issues with Connor!
I love the Anakin comparison. And I loved the Kyle run as the sole GL after Hal destroyed the Corps. Did you read the Green Arrow run from around Kyle’s time where Connor Hawke takes over for Oliver Queen, because Oliver died stopping Parallax Hal in Zero Hour? Also bleedingcool.com/collectibles...
I wish they would’ve really explored Hal dealing with his villainous actions and sorta how a human couldn’t handle the awesome power of a power ring. But they just basically rebooted the character in Rebirth, said he was possessed by a demon/Parallax. But I did like all the new Lantern Corps.
I was intrigued by his character arc of getting emotionally shattered by the destruction of Coast City during Death of Superman, then becoming a villain and trying to restart the universe and “fix” it in Zero Hour, then giving his life to restart the Sun in Final Night, then becoming the Spectre.
But it is odd to jump all the way back to some of his earliest adventures to then jump forward to a older, disillusioned version of the character. I don’t think the grey in his hair was connected to Parallax at all at this point. I remember his grey hair from Justice League Europe too.
I mean, Emerald Dawn was basically a prequel story; it predated the decades of GL stories that came before it. Seems like they were sorta searching for a new direction for Hal.
This is when I started reading GL as a kid. I loved the art. I knew GL from Super Friends and had no idea where the comic had been. I liked that Hal had that white in his hair. Funny how they retconned that to be an indication that Paralax had infected him.
This looks like a ton of fun and I just backed it! Adventures into Darkness #1 www.kickstarter.com/projects/jmh...#comicsky#comicbooks#kickstarter#indie
Yeah, it’s almost like they need to make the captions seem like diegetic, rather than just granting the reader magical access to characters’ thoughts. I wonder if part of these developments is the trend of comics being aimed at older audiences than their original conception of juvenalia.
The thought balloon thing is interesting. I like thought balloons; they give an opportunity to clue the reader in to something that other characters aren’t aware of. But maybe that is more a convention of comic strips and many of today’s comics seem geared to be storyboards for eventual TV/movies.
Her face in panel 2 is great. And I love seeing Connor Hawke. That was a good era—when they replaced some classic heroes with very likable characters. You knew it wouldn’t last, but it was a good ride.
Looks there was a mild MASK-Micronauts crossover, but there were also Transformers and GI Joe. Don’t think the MASK and Micronauts actually directly interacted, though. Looks like a kitchen sink Hail Mary sorta thing tfwiki.net/wiki/Microna...
